Reform and some regulation is in order for US health insurance. The current system sucks and the companies DO screw patients.
However, creating some massive federal program is not a proper fix. FIX the system. Don't scrap the system and create some massive costly experiment in its place.

Bah, both a couple conservatives. Nationalize for every citizen now!

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Then you'd just be part of the problem, rather than the answer!

If I remember correctly, we've only had one direct disagreement to my knowledge. And if you disagree, I'll biatch slap you.

Why are they not paying for your therapy? I'm intrigued.
Long story short, they thought I wasn't making any progress, thought I had plateaued, and told me that weren't going to cover anymore visits...like two weeks after I had finished paying my deductible. And now that the year is started over, and I'm paying down my deductible again, they noticed that, O HEY, you actually ARE making progress, ok, we'll cover you again...as long as you haven't reached your deductible and we're not actually paying anything. They make me want to go around kicking insurance executives in the crotch, and I'm not a violent person.

I know the feeling. My mom has worked as a benefits specialist for several big companies over the last 20 years. She has been working with some of the "best" insurance providers, and some of the stories I've heard from her have been horrible.
It's almost impossible for a non-traditional student (older than 25 and not able to depend financially on parents) to get health insurance. 25 doesn't even cover traditional students through a PhD, but I've heard that state/federal benefits for students are better in grad school. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm 5'10'' and i wiegh nearly 13 stones. I am just about to start a training regimen that will remove the, um, excess off my waist and put muscle where it should be. I let myself go and am willing to put some effort into getting in shape. barring acute medical conditions there should be no excuse for being well rounded.

The school's I've been talking to say that PhD candidates get health coverage, Terez. Are they pulling my chain?

Good on you for wanting to get into shape.
13 stone is about 182 pounds. That's not terrible for 5'10''; I am just over 5'11'' and I weigh in at 168 to 171 pounds. But as always, it's the context - kind of weight you're carrying - that matters. I once weighed 180 in college and that was all flab, born of beer and bad eating habits. I dropped all the way down to 155 when I stopped drinking and started playing lots of pick-up soccer.
I've been doing heavy workouts four to five times a week for about 9 months now and I'm in decent shape (in another couple months, I should be in legit six pack territory without eating like a durn rabbit). My weightlifting sessions never go more than an hour and frequently clocked in at under 45. My grappling sessions go from an hour and a half to two and my Saturday grapples have another two hours of Muay Thai and mixed martial arts added on. When I was weightlifting alone, I was all the way up to 177 (not that trim, but it was good weight), but I had to almost entirely cut lifting out for the martial arts.
I eat and drink pretty much whatever I want, although I've mostly stayed away from the corn syrup, white bread, rice, potatoes and beer. Lean meats, plenty of dairy and some fruits and vegetables is my usual diet.
If you want my basic program for weightlifting, here it is. Otherwise, just eat mostly clean (80 to 90%) and work HARD. You'll see results within two months and you'll be a changed person in less than a year.
By hard, I mean sweat pouring down your face and you're tired and sore for the first two weeks. Good luck.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.
