I don't know if anyone mentioned this already.

But when River Song gifted him with her regenerations in order to keep him alive wouldn't he have gotten all 11 of her remaining lives? We know that she only lived that final life and then died. She regenerated once I believe. Moffet could probably just say that the Doctor got her lives and thus can be reborn 11 more times after his 13th.

No, she gave him her regeneration energy to save his life...it went towards that healing. It's why he said "You didn't have to use all of them." to her. It was overkill, but it nonetheless still went to his healing. He's not all of the sudden got hose as extras. Or at least if he does then Moffat is creatively bankrupt.

There are lots of things you can accuse Moffat of, but 'creatively bankrupt' really isn't one of them. The opposite, if anything, he's too keen to use all of his ideas as soon as possible which has turned fair portions of his run into convoluted and sometimes incoherent messes. He's got Grant Morrison syndrome.

I'm slightly hopeful of the fact that things will improve now that the producer who supposedly was doing a very bad job is gone, and been replaced by the guy who had previously been the story editor (so seemingly the guy who told Moffat when enough was enough) during season 5, for me the best series of the revival so far. We'll see, though. Hopefully it wasn't too late for the 50th and Christmas specials.

Don't get me wrong he used to be my fave TV writer barnone. I adore COUPLING and PRESS GANG, and all his stuff during RTD's tenure...but S6 and 7 have MOSTLY been all flash and no proper substance. I can literally poke holes, big giant, fuck-off, holes through all of S7 simply by attacking the last ep (THE NAME OF THE DOCTOR). If your stories can fall apart that easily in a post-BB world...we've got problems.

And don't even get me started on the Wedding Of River Song season...jeebus.

Oh, I don't disagree that there are serious problems with seasons 6 and 7 (though moreso with 6- in 7 it's really just the final episode of each half that ruins things, in terms of the plot all falling apart - there are hickups elsewhere obviously but no more than standard for the Whoniverse. Season 6 is an enormous, crippled mess and also commits the inexplicable sin of absolutely destroying the previously brilliant character of River Song, especially the second half of it).

It's just that I don't think creative bankrupcy is the right accusation. Like I say, half the problems come from the fact that he's ramming so many ideas and things together that he ends up contradicting himself, or throws ideas in without thinking them through and then apparently abandons them for the next big thing.

One example, from the most recent Christmas special which I just rewatched: taken on its own, tbh, I think it's a fantastic episode, and holds up really well to a second view. There's a great fairytale vibe to his TARDIS on the cloud thing, Clara's whole governess act and all the rest. As a self-contained story it works very well.
However, the reason for his self-imposed exile and sulk not only makes him look like a petty dickhead, but really makes no sense whatsoever when you take it into any context whatsoever. I mean, River is right fucking there at the end of Angels Take Manhattan but apparently she suddenly means nothing to him. He's lost people before in similar circumstances and, hell, even this incarnation of the Doctor has abandoned them for hundreds of years at a time.

And if they'd just had Amy and Rory leave of their own free will like the whole half-season had been fucking well building up to, it would not only have removed half the plot holes but made his anger more understandable, coz he could see it as a betrayal and etc etc. It just wasn't thought through.

Huh. That turned into a rant. I wasn't expecting that.

I really really hope this new producer helps him, coz when he's good he's so so good. Even the worst bits have their moments.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

OH MY GODS.

This is literally thew happiest I have been ALL YEAR. I am nearly weeping at my desk.

PAUL MCGANN!!!!!!!!

There. That's it. You didn it Moffat, you gave me all the things I wanted. You gave me Tennant, you gave me the Time War...and now you've FINALLY given me Paul McGann, my fave Doctor ever.

I'm not joking. The 50th can now be whatever they choose it to be about and I will never cease being happy!

Embed of Kanubis (who beat me to posting this) above vid, for easier clickings.

EDIT: And Man, Steven Moffat was really bucking for fandom (finally) in this merely by having Eight reference ALL his companions from the Big Finish tales...Charlie, Lucy, Molly, Crizz! and with that, he makes them officially canon!

Here is an official BBC production pic of McGann's Eighth Doctor outfit. The Green coat and cravat survived...note the sonic...it's 4th Doctor's sonic since Eight's was actually destroyed by a train in DARK EYES audio.

It's from The Thick of It, showing us Peter Capaldi's most iconic role to date (Malcolm Tucker), and it's here in the hope that he'll play the Doctor in a similar fashion.

So I'm watching some specials that BBC America is playing and I hear from 1 lady that she played Susan, the Drs grand daughter. What's up with that?

Also omg the 6th Drs companion Peri was fucking HAWT back in the day. Wow.

1. Susan was the 1st Doctor's companion, and she was also his granddaughter.

2. Yes, Peri was hot then. Hell, she's still kinda hot.....but she's no Romana I (see below). It's really sad that Mary Tamm passed away. :)

Rumour has run rampant, what with the new FishDr Twitter account *supposedly belonging to Peter Davison* and we've been told to pay close attention to it....that ALL the Doctor's will be in THE DAY OF THE DOCTOR in new footage, and that 4th Doctor (Tom Baker) has a specifically beefed up role as he's been in a Zygon Pod for ages and that's why he will look so much older. Not sure how they'll be in it, but the rumour from months ago about Doctor's 1-3 (who are dead) being digitally recreated seems to also go along with this. And the rumour also says that Chris Eccelston IS in it as Nine, even though he said he turned it down...

Basically if this is true and Moffat has been able to keep an ELEVEN Doctor 50th Anniversary mostly under wraps...I will bow down to the man's secrecy. He mostly kept the Paul McGann Eight reveal secret and actively asked McGann to lie if asked by interviews if he was in it. So yeah, it would be a coup no one would forget, and would endlessly please fans.

We don't have long to wait folks! Saturday can't come soon enough!

Oh, sorry didn't know what you meant.

She's alive, AFAIK. Last appearance would have been in one of the recent Big Finish audio's. When he left her, she was still alive and we've never heard different.
