Nice look.

Hope they lose the 'lightning crackle' in the theme, just doesn't work for me.

I'm actually tempted to believe that they will do some variation on the original opening with the wavery lines ect. from the 1st Doctor's era...just updated and including the vortex in a more distinct way.

I also hope they lose the lightning crackle.

Cool look. Since I just started watching again a few mths ago it seems like a new set is sudden since it was redone with Amy in 2010. Eccelston and Tennants tardis were never redone was it?

No, Nine and Ten's TARDIS was the same interior throughout and only got revamped because it was so destroyed before Eleven came on board.

Even Eight's TARDIS (since he was only on TV in the '96 movie) was the same interior of Seven's TARDIS. Though I'll bet he changed it after that and throughout the Time War.

That was pretty good. By Christmas Special standards it was pretty great. Mostly thanks to Jenna-Louise Coleman, who's great fun and also stunning.

And loved the little nod to classic who - the great intelligence, london underground, snowmen (well, yeti's in classic who, but a clear tie in regardless) also i think every line from the sontaran made me smile. And yes she's stunning. Can't wait to see if they use this classic who ref as a lead in to an earlier dr's appearance.......

I don't watch Dr. Who. I've caught an episode here and there, but my backlog of things to work through is so big that it'll be a while before I really get to it.

However, I watched the season finale and season premiere back to back today on BBC HD. The finale was mostly good. The premiere was amazing throughout. That was some damn good tv.

The green lady, her wife and the potato soldier are awesome characters and the new companion really does pop off the screen as a great person. Moffat's writing was top-notch in this one.

Seriously, since New Who came back, every time there's been a companion change there's been a degree of companion hangover in the fandom - at least a few people complaining that the new one just isn't the same and I wish x or y would come back (I'd be one of them, on Rose-to-Martha).

But I've seen not one single complaint about Clara, and no-one mentioning Amy and Rory. She's just absolutely blown it away.

One odd thought: wouldn't Amy and Rory going back in time together to that era mean that they quai-allow the proliferation of angels that led to the whole problem?

On the other hand, I don't know how they can fight those things other than trying to create paradoxes all willy-nilly.

I must admit that while I enjoyed it, it was a bit forgettable, to me at least.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

I think part of the issue is that it's the intro of a new companion, new opening, new song, new TARDIS interior and even...a quasi-new personality for the Doctor (post-Ponds)...so instead of a charming Christmas Special that can tug at your heartstrings, we got kind of a pilot episode to the next Era...if that makes sense?

I totally see what you are both taking about, and that's I think perhaps why. Spitballing here though...

I loved it. Best Smith episode I've seen, bar none*. And pretty sure I've seen all of them. It was a whole lightyear ahead of anything else in his run and I can't put it down to any one thing; actors were brilliant, acting was so far above standard for 11's run it was like a different Era, the story was great (not the actual plot insomuch, but the characterization, introductions and so forth that QT mentions were excellent - and so good that I didn't care if the snowmen plot itself was completely ungripping) and mostly I think it was the tone that sold it. Probably because we finally, FINALLY, got Matt Smith to pull off a brooding, heartbroken, isolationist Doctor that didn't feel forced, stupid, stiff, or anything else (so, therefore, it was the acting? :() and not only that but turn it around in a way that somehow felt organic and natural and awesome. The chemistry is brilliant. If they keep that up I'll actually like this next season or so.

I'll go with "it felt like a regular season opener that just happened to take place on Christmas day" with the caveat that it was a GREAT season opener and a decent bloody companion intro ep to boot.

*Also, yes, I'm clearly biased as this was the closest Eleven got in feel to anything like Nine/Ten and you all know where I stand on that subject. :( So this has a giant "IMNSHO" label on it, obviously.

What the hell is wrong with you! Go and watch NOOOOOOOOOW. Tennant's last is the single most tearjerking piece of acting in the entire New Who, and potentially in all of Television. XD

So much this. That Sontaran was fucking gold.

Uhm, yeah. The Angels are actually ludicrously overpowered. They were bad enough in Blink, and they've only got worse. Anything that Quantum-Locks itself the second something is looking at it and otherwise is so fast all it takes is a blink for it to move literally a metre or so (give or take) and kills you by flinging you through time is, by definition, practically unbeatable. Barring the creation of paradox events, getting them into a staring contest with each other (a weakness revoked by their second appearance giving them the ability to move even when being looked at...game-breaking, much? And/or every image of an Angel becoming itself an Angel...INCLUDING ONES IN YOUR FUCKING RETINAS) or some other similarly ridiculous/convoluted/dangerous method of destruction (starvation only sorta works, after all) like ripping a hole into the Void and throwing them in....

Angels are off the charts in terms of power. Daleks you can physically destroy, even if it's hard, and they can be contained. Angels...have a bunch of uncategorised powers that just keep growing (ability to make lights flicker, activate Deadlock Seals remotely, control the television set their image is recorded on so you can't turn it off....) and are pretty much physically impervious to anything and everything and are fuckoff fast. I love them, but frankly I don't think they can be used much more before their downfall becomes EXTREMELY contrived beyond even Who-acceptable standards, 'cuz they're just over the top these days. They were brilliant in Blink and just got ridiculous after that, basically. XD

Just watched the Christmas special. First off in about the first 2 minutes I already enjoyed it a million times more than the stupid tree/forest Christmas ep last year. Secondly I found it ridiculously hard not to drool over Oswin with my wife sat next to me. Looking forward to seeing more of her!! My theory is that she is the Doctors Daughter (formerly known as Jenny!) Somehow. Not sure how it will work but thats the best I have so far...

@BK...TECHNICALLY Jenny was only his daughter because she was made from his DNA, so she's not REALLY related to him...just has some of his genetic line in her.

But yeah, I'm sticking to my idea that she's The Master (post-THE END OF TIME P II)

Jenny must be in the season I've not watched lol cause its not ringing any bells. You said she's made of his DNA so River isn't involved at all?

Yeah, no...Jenny is in the episode called THE DOCTOR'S DAUGHTER from S4. She's made from an imprint that was taken from him on a War planet. Go watch it, great episode!

And fun fact: She was played by the lovely Georgia Moffatt...real life daughter of Peter Davison (the 5th Doctor)...and currently married (with a kid) to Tenth Doctor David Tennant. The More You Know!

Finally watched the Xmas special. Wasn't at all what I expected, in a good way. Loved it.

It will be interesting to see how Oswin's story plays out.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Hey QT I thought you said somewhere here that Xmas special was the official start of the new season. Why isn't it coming on tonight? I was expecting it lol. Or did I miss understand you?

It was the official start to Series 7.5....but the rest doesn't air till April.

Moffat has totally fucked up how the show is meant to air.

While the two-parter thing is obviously dead annoying, Christmas Special-then-series-in-April is exactly how RTD did it for series 2, 3, and 4 so what's the problem there?

How is the show meant to air in any case?

It isn't the Chirstmas - April gap that is the problem as such, usually that gap is also between series. Having the large gap within a single season is jarring and reduces the first watch pleasure for me. Because they are short seasons, they should be airing over 12 consecutive weeks, the a Christmas special each year. I would personally rather go without the Christmas special and have a normal season back that the mess for the past 2 years.
