You also have to remember that the TARDISes were designed and constructed by only three people: Rassilon, Omega, and The other (some believe this was the Doctor himself).

That's not really the case. Rassilon and Omega created the Eye of Harmony and the Hand of Omega and undertook the original time travel experiments. TARDISes are a direct result of that technology, but it's unclear if Rassilon and Omega created the concept of the TARDISes themselves (some fans have speculated that they originally used things more akin to the SIDRATs, much more primitive time capsules). Even if they did, there were many, many generations of TARDISes following their day (the Doctor's was a Type 40 and considered ancient and obsolete). Certainly later generations of TARDISes were built by people other than Rassilon and Omega as they were gone for thousands of years by the time they were built.

Actually, the doctor being the Other was part of the Cartmel masterplan - before that, there WASN'T an 'Other' - it was Rassilon and Omega only.

It's also worth noting that 'The Other' was never mentioned on TV, only in the New Adventures and the novelization of REMEMBRANCE OF THE DALEKS. Given the mostly de-canonised status of the Cartmel Masterplan, the very existence of the Other from the perspective of the TV show is also in question.

So was a a lot of stuff before Moffat came aboard. He's been all about canonizing shit that long-time Who-fans argue up and down don't count. It's one of the things I like about his tenure.

I LOVED being able to finally shut down those fans who not only discounted Eight's presence and adventures, but argued that none of his off-screen adventures happened.

I'll wager you will continue to see this during Twelve's time in the TARDIS. So you are welcome to hang on to those canon-foibles, but I suspect Moffat is looking to make short work of them. The Other is a big one, and if you think for one second that he's not going to cash in on allowing the Doctor to be a part of such a big thing in Time Lord history by making him canonisticly the Other...you're dreaming. I figure it's only a matter of time now.

Nothing gave me more pleasure than to hear how dismissively the script for TIME OF THE DOCTOR handled the Regeneration Numbering argument that fans had been having for a years. "No, not forever. I can change 12 times. Thirteen versions of me. Thirteen silly doctors." "You're Eleven." "Oh, are we forgetting Captain Grumpy? And I once used up a regeneration and didn't change my face."

It was a clear, succinct, "shut up now" from Moffat to those whop argued...and as much as some of what that man does aggravates me...THAT was one moment I'd pat him on the back for. Who fans can be total assholes and deserved it. I should know, I am one.

The Masterplan was dependent on the looms and Time Lords not being able to procreate naturally any more. RTD stuck two fingers up on that by outright showing the Master as a child and confirming that the Doctor had had children (rather than the odd situation between the Masterplan and Susan). I haven't heard any good fanwanking on how those two issues have been reconciled, though I dare say there's some out there.

Oh I don't mean he'd be reinstating the Cartmel master plan...just that he's going to cherry pick some feature of it for future Doctor Lore. I guarantee it.

First official image of Capaldi in the Twelfth Doctor outfit.

Spoilered for size.

Spoiler

I'ma be really honest.

MEH.

I mean seriously. That is decidedly underwhelming. Apparently the point of it is a back to basics, no scarf, no tie, ect...but come on...

Got to agree, kinda. I mean there's nothing wrong with it and I suspect it'll grow on me if Capaldi wears it well (and let's be fair, he could wear anything well), but I was hoping for something a bit more distinctive. I mean it's just... clothes.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

I hope he isn't as camp as he looks there.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

It's all right, but he looks a bit like a stage magician from several decades ago. All he needs is a top hat.

I guess I think it's fine. Better than Eccleston's. They'll probably tweak it in a season or two anyway.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Yeah, Moffat's favourite thing to do with Matt was change up his accessories, fez, cowboy hat, different styles of tweed jackets, shirts, bowties...and then the purple ensemble with waistcoat and watch which mutated off of his Victorian-mourning gear.

It's why I liked RTD and Ten. Two suits, overcoat and done.

Fine, it's clear he's taking some inspiration from the old Doctor, but come on...

You have to admit it's a LITTLE uncanny!

Capaldi is a brilliant actor. His scenes in TORCHWOOD: CHILDREN OF EARTH alone sell that.

I wish it was a longer teaser, but I understand Moffat wanting to hold back a bit on it til later in July.

Still, it's going to be VERY hard to top this teaser which was everyone's proper glimpse of Matt Smith:

It's going to be pretty hard to top the end of Matt's first episode as well imo!
