Other than the Torchwood Season 3 I don't believe I've ever seen Capaldi on screen before he was picked as 13. So I was a bit iffy as to whether I thought he'd be good or not.

1:02 - 1:17.

15 seconds says 13 is going to be great:

I'd prefer to count her as a recurring character, but I don't see anything wrong with counting her as a companion. Like Captain Jack there seems to be some debate because they both travel through time of their own volition and are not dependent on the Doctor to drag them around, but they do both perform the companion role in multiple episodes.

More iffy are the three 'temporary' companions in the Tennant 2009 TV movies, which the BBC counts as official companions but no WHO fans I know of do (Christina de Souza and Adelaide Brooke are just one-off characters and Wilfred Mott is a recurring character).

Since she is the Doctors wife I wouldn't count her as a companion.

To completely abandon everything I said about Sally Sparrow, Wilf is obviously a companion- and the best one in New-Who so far to boot.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

I'm a Who fan (we call ourselves Whovians BTW)...and I count them both as companions. Choosing not to do so is REALLY mean.

It's possible Wilf is my fave companion of Ten's full stop (which is a big statement considering I'm such a Rose fanboy)...but I WISH WISH WISH we could have seen a proper full season with him as companion. He was solid gold during THE END OF TIME PART I & II...let alone his appearances in Donna's season. Wilf was amazing.

What about Rory's dad? He should count seeing as he got such a shitty raw deal.

That is all very true. But his ass just can't compare to Martha's. Or Jack's. But Martha....

Martha may have been very pretty and all that, but Freema Agyeman can't act for shit and it really showed.

Rory is the second best companion of New-Who so far, by the way.

JLC is my favourite of the actresses so far but after three great introductions, her character's been very poorly served by the writing in the series 7 and I hope that changes and she gets something to do because she's delightful.

I'd like to agree with all above, except Rory as second best comp.

Mrs. QT actively HATES Martha and finds her acting annoying.

I just watched the last three episodes of Season 4 - holy shit those were some crazy intense episodes! I absolutely LOVED insane Dalek-Kan - "I have danced and died a thousand times!!! *cackles*"

Rory fails as a best but it's not his fault. Even a stupid person would have some character changes after standing guard for 2k years. Rory showed none. Just not believable (imho).

Is Mrs. QT's active hatred for Martha based upon acting or that marvelous posterior? :)

Yes, I've been a WHO fan for thirty years, so am aware of the term. I just don't like to use it :)

Counting Adelaide and Christina as companions does have the benefit that this also means that Duggan was a companion as well, as he had more screen-time than them and fit the same criteria (was in a single story but travelled in the TARDIS). Duggan was awesome and should have been a full companion :p

'Thousands' of film cans of missing material from the 1950s through the 1970s has been recovered from Africa.

The full contents of the haul have not yet been revealed, but it is highly believed to include the three missing episodes of Dad's Army and 'more' missing episodes of Doctor Who, though how many remains unknown. Episodes of Steptoe and Son and Hancock's Half Hour are also rumoured to be in the pile.

Doctor Who superfan Ian Levine has also confirmed that he has recovered five episodes of Doctor Who from Taiwan, where they were - bizarrely - stored after being shown to visiting American GIs during the Vietnam War. Unfortunately, all five of the episodes were additional copies of ones already extant in the BBC archives, but still, it was a good lead and raises hopes there is still more stuff out there.

I'm now officially caught up on Doctor Who - I may have to rewatch much of Season 7 as I was drinking during a good portion of my initial watch-through, and I didn't quite catch that Clara kept dying throughout the Season... But now I'm all caught up, just on time to watch Matt Smith die!
