I dont know why I liked Paul McGann as the Doctor so much after just seeing him in "The Night of the Doctor." He just seems perfect for this role. Maybe I should watch the movie with him. Hurt was awesome too, I wish there was more if him.

1. McGann is one of the best things about the TV movie (the narrative stumbles a lot) He shines.
2. McGann's audio adventures as the Eighth Doctor through Big Finish are amazing. If you liked NIGHT OF THE DOCTOR....you'd like those.
3. Basically my fan pipe dream is that Moffat sees fit to give him a siderunning spinoff filling out some Eighth Doctor Adventures...though Moffat has said it's not likely...the bastard.

I finally watched the TV movie, and yeah I really liked McGann. Too bad we never got to see more...
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Wait in... order? Why are all the numbers out of order? Did I miss something obvious or misunderstand what QT has been on about for so long?

I was on my phone, and I added them in what I thought was the correct order. I had to save them as 4 different pictures.

Sara Kingdom was definitely a companion as well: travelled in the TARDIS on multiple occasions and appeared in nine episodes, which is a reasonable number and a lot more than her predecessor Katarina (who only appeared in four). If they're counting Grace Holloway - who only appeared in the one TV movie and never travelled in the TARDIS, though she did see inside - they should count Sara as well.
Also, Yates's first appearance was in Season 8, and he's very borderline as a recurring character. He definitely wasn't a companion by the criteria they set.

Wrongo: Grace DID travel in the TARDIS after the TV movie. http://tardis.wikia..../Grace_Holloway It wasn't in the TV show, but seeing as Moffat went and legitimized the Eighth Doctor's off-screen companions...she did travel with him a few times.
I also don't think there is set criteria to meet to be a companion. Pretty much anyone who accompanies him and helps him a few times can be considered one...since that's what the word means.
Yates, was in ELEVEN TV stories between S8 and 21. If he's not considered a companion then neither is Jack Harkness or River Song. But we both know they are. Sally Sparrow sure as hell is...even though she never travels with him.
Aside from all else, that is the nit-pickiest post I've ever seen someone make Wert...and I used to watch the pedantic posts at Gallifrey Base so that's saying a lot. Dial it back a bit maybe? LOL
NOTE: I'm teasing you with the last comment. No real offense intended Wert.

How can Sally Sparrow possibly be a companion? She meets him for all of about ten seconds.

Sally Sparrow counts because she
A. Is the first to deal with and help the Doctor BEAT the Weeping Angels.
B. Lost what is possibly the love of her life to them (some might argue that the brother is the love of her life...I disagree)
C. Also helps the Doctor and Martha get home.
D. EVERYONE unequivocally loves Sally Sparrow.
She counts. Totally counts.

Moffat legitimised the Big Finish Audios. And only to the extent of saying the companions he had in them were canon. Grace was never in the Big Finish Audios, nor in the novels. She was only in the TV movie and the comics, and the comics have always been regarded as having the lowest canon status of any of the media (sometimes sadly so: Paul Cornell's EMPEROR OF THE DALEKS comic strip is a vastly superior account of what happened to Davros between REVELATION and REMEMBRANCE OF THE DALEKS to the godawful John Peel novels) due to the number of times it contradicts the other media (case in point: THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES confirms that Ace is still alive, confirming her fate in the novels and not the comics, where she was killed off).
If we are counting the comics, then where the hell is Frobisher on the list?

The UNIT characters can certainly be counted as recurring characters, no problem there, but people have been arguing for forty years if they should be counted as companions or not. The Brig did act in the companion role quite a few times, though, and Benton arguably at least once (in THE THREE DOCTORS). Yates was always more of a background character and only had a really big role to play when he became a bad guy and later reformed.
