I'm sure Tapper said everyone was in a faction. I know pretty much nothing about ancient roman history, so I'm not going to speculate on who they might be.

Since we're talking about serious stuff now - was anyone else intrigued by the 'roles that need to be revealed before they work' - Ninja anyone?

Well from this, as everyone who is not julii is dead when this actually matters, I'd assume there both julii otherwise it seems a stupid condition to put in

So they cant win while their own members are still alive? Since apparently recruitment can happen, I would assume that they start in a different faction and block victory if they're still around and have been recruited. Since we have no idea what the numbers look like this could simply be there to let people hide in other factions and add some late game paranoia.

that would actually make sense--if I remember my grade 6 Ancient history correctly, they both went after Brutus and Cassius after Ceasar was killed, and they beat them somewhere in Macedon.
then they had a falling out, Marc anthony took over Egypt and married Cleopatra and went to war against Rome. And lost.
Octavian Augustus became the first "real" Emperor.
