weapons weapons of the malz world

hey everyone. From browsing through the art section it is very obvious that there is an abundance of talent in the forum. Now I would like to post a challenge for anyone with any technical skills. In many of the books, the corkscrew crossbow comes into play as a favorite weapon of the claw. Can someone please give me a rendition of what they think it looks like? I am going nuts trying to work it out in my head. Alas I have no talent in the area of drawing so I am not able to work the details out on paper. and any of the other weapons in the book would be just cool icing on the cake.

Do you mean the Ribless crossbow used by the Claw? I can't draw right now...
I think you pretty much described the mechanism - a screw instead of ribs/winder, to draw back the bolt. If you remove the normal ribs and stock from a crossbow, reduce it in size somewhat (Kalam wears one on his forearm) and add straps, you pretty much have it.
Whether it would work effectively is debatable.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

ok that is great and all but where does the tension come from. a metalic spring? or is there a coil of gut somewhere giving the tension. any other ideas or possible quick sketches out there people? help a sapper out.

I always envisioned them as a metal tube, coiled spring that forces outwards. would have to tensioned for very short periods of time though.

I wouldn't think that they'd have the technology to fashion a spring, I'd imagine there's a strap of gut somewhere in there with a screw to pull it back. Damnit I wish I had gotten my tablet for xmas. The folks misunderstood and got me a digital notebook...which is useless. Gotta wait till I return it.
I will draw it for you eventually!!!
But I'm sure someone will do it first.

So last night I was walking downtown for some pizza at like 1am with some friends of mine,
and someone said, "I'm so hungry I could eat a whole pizza."
I said, "I bet I could eat 100 pizzas," and no one understood me. I was sad.

I is considering buying a tablet, but not until after I go snowboarding, expect poorly realised misimaginings of weapons in a month or so

Sorry for bringing out an old thread.
I think I've pretty much figured out one option for a basic mechanism for the Claw's ribless crossbow.
I'm kinda bad at drawing, but I've done what I could. I'm sure someone else here can sketch it with more skills. The mechanical principles are there, in any case. If some parts are unclear, feel free to ask me.

Nice job! Good thinking there and I like the way you drew it out with explanations etc. Did you do any other weapons?

No, it's the only one I've done. It's pretty much the only clearly mechanical device that needed any kind of real explaining anyway. So don't expect me to try and sketch out Icarium's time keeping devices next!
