Hey guys, I need your help. I am planning on watching some movies on Halloween and I was wondering if you had any suggestions? I am not looking for the Slasher type movies more for suspense like Aliens, Hills have Eyes (although that was Slasher as well), etc.

Also have any of you seen the Orphanage? If so how was it?

Cheers and thanks for your help.

yeah, that was a weird movie that wasn't too bad. but if you want something along the lines of Aliens, how about Abyss? what would Halloween be without one of the SAW movies? And I quite liked Roadkill....Candycane!...*Oooo!* (I think that's what he says). I liked it better than Jeepers Creepers, which was really cool until the killer

I haven't seen The Orphanage, but i hear it's supposed to be good.

I did see Event Horizon years ago and thought it was quite a good horror movie (as hollywood movies go) since it relied more on suspense.

I thought CANDYMAN was a really good horror movie when i saw it. And probably more in keeping with Halloween night than some of the other movies. And if you like Clive Barkers stuff, then the original HELLRAISER is excellent. The sequels really do go downhill though.

An American Werewolf in London is a good one too. It has both horror and humour but it may look a bit dated now. It was made back in 1981 and i remember it scaring the sh1t out of me as a child. Dark roads in the countryside became scary places for a while. But I'd wait and see if anyone else here has seen it and can recommend it too.

I'll see if i can think of any more.

Halloween? If you like creepy dark films, 'The Devils Backbone' by Guillermo del Toro is good.

Wrong Turn is an ok movie. And for a tongue in cheek, but still shit hot horror film, watch Dog Soldiers. I'll fight any one who says it's shit.

The Descent was suprissingly good in that department, also liked The Others, The Shining ofc if you somehow have managed to miss that :-P

The orphanage is good, but Devil's Backbone is better.

Myself I'd go for the Tim Burton galore, nice and gothic :(

Oh yeah, I just remembered another good one. ANGEL HEART. A seriously atmospheric movie, that gets really dark.

If only there was rep to give out. :(

Although, if you go down that route, how about Swept Away.

The Legend of Hell House. Even though an old film (1973) it has a creepy factor of about 9.5.

The Haunting - the 1963 original, not the 1999 remake, is flat out creepy without relying on over the top SFX. The newer version relies less on acting and more on technology to create its effects.

Last House on the Left was pretty good for its time. The Shining will be a classic always.

Cheers all!

Thanks for the ideas. I think I might end up getting The Strangers (the new one with Liv Tyler) anyone seen it? Probably either The Orphanage or Devils Backbone as well.

I'll let you know what I think!

I've only seen most of the second half and for some reason I'm not inclined to want to watch the rest, I'm not scared or anything...much. Proper horror.
