So I bought Fallout 2 and I'm currently installing it on my computer (instead of doing my homework, of course).

Is this game as good as I've heard? I bought it for the equivellant of 4 pounds. Thought I'd check out all this praise.

Good Choice, Fallout 2 was a very enjoyable game. That's part of the reason I am so excited for Fallout 3 next Tuesday!

It's worth it. :)

Especially for that price! Great game.

you will probably be wanting these
fallout 2 restoration project
fallout 2 hires patch

[edit:]
Fallout is an oldschool kind of game and you have to keep that in mind when you play it. It lacks a lot of modern game mechanics, there are no glowing objects or floating arrows to let you know what you can interact with, no handy tutorial levels, no handholding at all. You are on your own in a post-apocalyptic wasteland and if you misstep you will be chunks of meat scattered across the road.
Once you 'get it', though. It's one of the greatest games you will ever play.

Fallout 2 is one of those games, much like Baldurs Gate 2 and Planescape: Torment, that comes along every few years and just makes you extremely happy.

Although, as a new player Apt, it might have aged badly for your tastes.

Does one need Fallout 1/2 to understand/help to play Fallout 3, in terms of story lines?
Cheers
I just blew your mind.

highly unlikely.

you will probably miss out on a lot of world references (like dogmeat), but story-wise, i doubt it. just read through the plot summary on wikipedia or something and you'll be fine.

The computer couldn't install it :)

For some reason the installation programme freezes when I click install.

Weird, it isn't processor heavy or anything.

you may need to run it in dosbox or something mate. as it runs off of a cmd box and doesnt like win xp. check the program file and make sure it is in compatability mode. it does work, i have fallout 2 on my pc.

Just looked at the box and you're right, I don't think it likes XP at all.

I've heard of this Dosbox thingy. What does Dosbox do and how is it going to help the game run onb my computer?

fallout 2 is very dated, still uses the infinity engine, or at least something very very similar to the infinity engine from the Baldur's series.

I tried to go back and play these games, but they just don't hold the charm they used to for some reason. I used to be all about the infinity engine games but something just makes them boring to me now.

Which of course is very sad, since they are some of my fave games of all time.

Looking forward to trying out fallout3 though. It looks incredible.
