Wild speculation time!!
currently rereading DG and pages 649-650 Mappo is musing on the Nameless Ones and i too reckon Gothos is in fact the NO's master
he says the NO were "cast out, cast down" in the first empire, they once worshipped a god but no more, they bent to a new master and he asks who they bent down to and who's power resides now in their staffs! And that after his much wandering, he now reckons he knows who their master is...
Got me thinking about the NO staffs they hold and how they have ever changing flowing script on them, i reckons thats the power of Gothos in their staff, his Folly and thats how they know everything!
Plus his musing is also the same time hes thinking about the destruction of the raraku warren after iccy goes medieval, connected events with Gothos!

Certainly possible since it seems like Gothos is working for/with the Azath and we know Icarium is connected to them.
Could also explain why the Nameless Ones never tried to end the threat that Icarium poses, but instead seems to try and "manage" him

well in DG the NO's are trying to get iccy to be taken by tremorlor, but mappo stops it from happening. and then who do we meet right after who expresses the sentiment that iccy needs to be stopped? why, its gothos!
don't know why i didn't see that connection before. now i do its seems as likely as anything that the NO power derives from gothos. but do they know that?

There's a fine line between genius and insanity. I have erased this line.

i reckon they do, quoting from DG - Mappo asking an Elder about the Nameless Ones
Quote
"i must know more," he'd whispered. "more of these nameless ones, who would so demand this of me, are they sworn to a god?"
"once, but no more," the old women had replied, unable or unwilling to meet his eye. "cast out, cast down. in the time of the first empire which was not, in truth,
the first - for the t'lan imass claimed that title long before. they were the left hand, another sect the right hand - both guiding, meant to be clasped. instead, those
who would come to be unnamed, in their journeys into mysteries-" she chopped with one hand, a gesture mappo had not seen before amoungst the tribe's elders.
a gesture, he realised with a start, of a jhag. "mysteries of another led them astray. they bowed to a new master. that is all there is to say.
"who was this new master?"
the women shock her head, turned away.
"whose power resides in those staves they carry?"
she would not answer.
in the passage of time, mappo believed he had found the answer to that question, but it was a knowledge devoid of comford.

and on to gothos, showing that he obv knew what was going on, that the azath was working towards capturing iccy, crystal ball or not he knew... speaking with fiddler etc
Quote
without turning, the guardian spoke in a low rumbling voice, "your failure in taking icarium has been noted."
...
mappo failing etc etc
"The azath has worked towards this taking for a long time, mortals."
,,,
"my son must be stopped - his rage is a poison," the jaghut said. "some responsibilities suprass friendship, surpass even blood.

Azath act to control and contain extream magic or power. They rise in response to a concentration of power in one place. In DOD(LARGE SPOILER)
Spoiler
This is also the case in GotM when the power of Reast is contained and in RG when Scarbandari soul is contained.
Now, ain't that just fine.

That's a pretty huge entirely unnecessary bunny rabbit.

So, you're the historian who survived the Chain of Dogs.
Actually, I didn't.
It seems you stand alone.
It was ever thus.
