Hey so I thru hiked 1600 miles of the Appalachian Trail last year. There's a nother 600 miles left to complete. I had to get off early cause I broke some bones in my foot.

I hiked with a buddy of mine from Georgia to Mass where we had to get off. We planned on going back in a few weeks but now he can't go back. Should I finish it or wait around until maybe his situation allows him to?

Prevailing Ap' Trail cultist wisdom would dictate that you finish it, then do it again with your buddy whenever he's ready.

Like when you see a movie without your buddy who also wanted to see it, and see it again when he's able but don't tell him you already saw it?

More like you tell him it was so awesome that you will happily watch it again with him and refrain from spoiling all the best lines.

A friend of mine has done the trail a few times in whole and in parts and more or less proselytises for it.

Sidebar: When I saw FIGHT CLUB for the first time (at a Clearnet [now Telus] advance screening) in the theatre with my buddy, he turned to me as the credits started to roll and said...

Him: "Do you know what the best thing about that movie is?"

Me: "No, what?"

Him: "The fact that I already saw it last night."

LMAO

Yeah, with stuff like multi day through hikes, you go do it when you're ready and if your ideal partner isn't ready when you are, you go ahead by yourself. Hopefully, the cycles will sync up again for a hike together later on.

He shouldn't hold it against you and you should make it clear that you're up for hiking together when you both can find the time/space to do it.

Waiting and waiting causes resentment, even between the best of friends.

It's one of those classic situations where you want to take a hike but you don't want your friend to tell you to take a hike.

It's been a rough week. I'm taking this right off another board, but here's a list of this week's deaths:

Milos Forman
Art Bell
Barbara Bush
Avicii
Harry Anderson
R. Lee Ermey
Verne Troyer
Bruno Sammartino
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Been lots of talk about him being (a real marine) able to escort the 1st Lady through the gates of Heaven on my social media.

This is pretty dumb. If we're inventing fictional escorts for a person's soul that traverses to heaven, how about the already dead family members instead of a probable compete stranger just because he was military-is in his most famous appearance?

"Is this a paying gig?" "No, we ordered you to volunteer because ladies apparently can't find their way here by themselves." "I'm dead. I don't have to do anything at this point. Fuck you, fuck her, I'm getting a drink in the Pleiades constellation."

If we're being pedantic like that, then what about this?

Heaven doesn't exist, Barbara and all other dead people are really dead and not there anymore, and all that remains of us after death are corpses that will immediately begin decompose.

Something about that post is a little off. I'm not sure that's quite what pedantic means.

Pedantic:

2. overly concerned with minute details or formalisms

As in, there are on FB people who're claiming they know the mind of god and the workings of heaven to the extent that they can tell exactly who is accompanying whom to where after these individuals have died and what you're getting stuck on is whether Barbara Bush is in heaven or not?

I think the more pressing matter is the people who're posting this stuff.

Well, I object mightily to the virtue signaling that accompanied Bush's death that took form as "this one especially goes to heaven and with a fancy military escort too" while there's millions of dead Arabs and thousands of dead Americans due to the legacies of her husband's and son's actions, with the most recent deaths occurring even as we speak.

But what really gets me is the hijacking of a near random to be the escort that probably neither of the two people would choose to occur that exact way. It's a syncretic and toxic narrative that pretty much only comes from people looking to reassure themselves that this is the "right" narrative.

I'm also taking out a bit of stress from real life and Briar King isn't the proper target of it. He's not the one saying these things, just the one relaying it to me. So I think I've moved past pedantic into actually objecting to it and objecting to it too hard because of real life stuff.

Ok, good talk all.

One nice day outside riding in a sleeveless shirt, and I already have distinct tanline for my neck and shoulders.

And there's still a month left until the first cottage weekend.

Ugh, it's been around 25°C for an entire week, and as if the heat wasn't bad enough, it rained last night. Naturally, EVERYTHING is in full bloom, and equally naturally, everyone at work has their windows opened wide to the world. Even my full daily dose of cortisone isn't doing much to keep the pollen at bay today.

Guy in van just mowed down ten pedestrians in Toronto, at Yonge & Finch...four dead so far.

They caught him, and it was intentional as he drove off after the initial hit and attempted to do it again before the van ceased working.

Fucking hell.

Got a feeling FOMO is going to set in and God of War playership is going to jump. Which means more activity in the GOW thread, which isn't a good thing, imo.
