Or my personal favorite: making changes and only telling us after the fact. It's happened where procedures were changed and I was only told about it after I "messed up" because I had still been following the old way of doing things. Well yeah, dingbats, if you don't tell me that I need to be doing ABC instead of XYZ, how can I know?

Thankfully these few days back after vacation haven't been too bad, other than this morning - one of my applications won't open at all. Of course, it's the primary application that I need to do my work, and it's still a bit too early for our IT department to be there, so I am already slightly annoyed. Great way to start the day!

Water tastes funny. Not sure if it is because of the heat and bursting water mains, but I hope I am not ingesting anything bad...

I'm sure it's fine... It's just radioactive toxins that will cause you to lose all of your hair, turn your skin green, and your penis to fall off.

Nah, they don't wonder, they know. Just really good at pretending that it's all some mystery and it couldn't possibly have anything to do with bureaucratic bullshit or corporate douchebaggery that regularly screws over the bulk of the workforce (often in the name of MOAR PROFITS) or anything, right?

-_-

(I feel your pain, Ando)

The most irritating thing is that we had to attend this daylong leadership seminar on a Saturday about dedication and communication and teamwork. And then shit like this happens. I know the higher ups don't really care but I feel like they live in a bubble if they expect us to care after this kind of stuff just goes on and on.

Oh yeah, the change the rules thing is extremely frustrating. I escaped something like that last month because I asked an innocent question and someone spilled the beans about a change literally no one in my department had heard of.

"Was this written down somewhere?*
*more blank looks, some uncomfortable shuffling*
"Is there a policy document? Instruction book? Training manual? Sticky-note in someone's cubicle?"
*more blank looks, shuffling, one guy tries to sneak away*
"Can someone, anyone, here, or somewhere else, explain to me how this utterly - and obviously - wrong thing that is already going to cost to fix and will cost gagillions of dollars if you keep doing it - became the standard thing that everyone here does?"
*blank looks slide towards hostile, shuffling now involves pointy pens and blunt instruments, someone fakes a seizure, fire alarm sounds*

My job is wonderful and it was initially on a three month contract that is up 31 August. The purpose for which I was hired is a federal govt audit, which is happening now.

I am going to be in a state of uncertainty for a while. Will they pick me up permanently? Or not? When do I bring this up to? To whom?

(My boss didn't hire me, her boss's boss hired me, so that's the wrinkle)

At least I have an interview for another job on 1 August. That's not as fun as this one, but it's a guaranteed job, which is a good thing.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

I would bring up to your boss that you would like to convert to an employee. They can explore that possibility.

When would be the right time to do that? Audit ends after Thursday.

My boss is a lady and I'll try, the problem with this is that she works fine hours away from me and not in my city. I think I get what you're going for and am onboard with that.

Ugh, yeah, that sucks too. Though I did have one time when our (completely hands-off, no practical knowledge whatsoever) manager sent out an email one night informing us of a change to be made. I immediately checked it out because it was impractical as hell, but it actually turned out to be physically impossible on our system. Promptly went and mentioned this to our team leader who had a priceless look on her face at the news.
We had to "do our best" under that new procedure for a week before the rule got rescinded. Thus started one of my favourite parts of that job - balancing staying in the manager's good books without getting too far up her favourites list in order to avoid spending time with her. XD (It was a careful balancing act that required me to occasionally say something to annoy her and drop my standing down a few pegs. Man, those were the days. /sarcasm)

I have a patch of white hair that I only discovered when getting my hair done for Shiara and Lucy's wedding. :p

I didn't realise grey hair was a thing to care about except in regards to how hot it makes guys look. Matador has grey coming through around his ears. It's seriously awesome. -_-

I'm pretty sure I have grey hairs but I can't remember at the moment. I'd look in a mirror but my hair is currently dyed dark green.

Yeah, I don't have the George Clooney style dignified grey at the temples. I wouldn't mind so much except people will not stop commenting about it. It makes me feel old.

27 (28 later this year) and I've also got grey coming through at the the front on one side. Hoping for one sort of epic white streak a la Rogue from X Men, but I doubt the universe is going to be that kind!

The vacation to france was great, but the post vacation fight with my girlfriend was not. It ended with me pulling the plug on the whole thing and I am now single once more. I guess I already knew it would go this way, but it still makes me very sad. I wanted the relationship to work, but it didn't.

She's insecure and anxious about social situations which made her feel bad and upset which again led to her taking it out on me in ways. It was manageable i thought, there's a lot of stuff about her and our relationship that was great enough I could look past it. But on this vacation, especially the time we spent with my family, it became too much. I don't mind supporting her when she feels upset, but I can't spend every moment worrying about her and whether I'll do something that'll make her angry. Or jealous. She got jealous about the weirdest stuff and I just couldn't deal with it anymore, especially since I'm not the jealous type.

I had hoped she'd feel less insecure the longer we were together, and the more time we spent with my family (we've gone on cabin trips, birthdays and such in the past) but it never seemed to get better.

I hope she gets professional help. You're done with each other, that's clear. But going through life with unsettlement or anxiety like that stinks.

As for trips, I found out my somewhat introverted SO needs time to recharge her batteries after an extended time being social and exploring places unfamiliar to her. So we've settled on a "two days on, one day off for rest" system. That seems to give her enough time to recharge and process everything, while not being too much resting for me. My usual trip style is "Go as hard as humanly possible with the exploring and moving around for the entire duration of it and sleep it off at home", which doesn't work well for some people. She was able to bend her style some for me and I did the same for her.

My SO is also still a bit jittery around my very large and definitely-not-American family due to hers being tiny and very reserved, but it's getting better and they love her to a shocking degree. Things are getting better and she's trying hard to adjust while staying fully herself (which is something I totally support). Talking to her at each stage hasn't been easy every single time (occasional fights, hurt feelings on both sides, and lots of fitful starts to the talks), but it's helped enormously in both of us figuring out how the other wants to be supported, our perceptions of what is going on, and what the expectations are.

My adjustment to her family, friends, and so on has been easier, although I do have a few problems coming from my "barrel ahead" approach that she's working on smoothing away.
