That is perhaps one of my biggest nightmares. Do you have indoor dogs?

3 of them and 2 cats.

Meanwhile the giant spiders keep appearing in my house

So it was one of those snakes with fangs?
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Snakes aren't supposed to go in there, BK.

Oh great now I have mental images I can't get rid of!

Thanks BK!

Meanwhile, teaching is really taxing on the throat. Also how did some of these people make it into college?

So the company redoing my bathroom is on their third week past the deadline. The contract specifies daily fines they'll have to pay if so. A week past the deadline I told them they had two options, 1) to make it so I can live in the apartment anyway, or 2) pay for my hotel. They refused to do any of them, and yesterday the head of the company yelled at me over the phone and basically threatened me with an even slower completion if I insisted on being "difficult". He also said I'd have to take them to court for the money. All in all he was very unpleasant. I wonder if he might have forgotten that I've only paid half so far.

I don't respond that well to threats or domination techniques, and I am certainly not intimidated by taking this to the courts (small claims is cheap, easy and fast). He might have wanted to google my name before he went the whole shut up, you're crazy, you're not getting shit, route.

Thankfully I know the law very well, and just to be safe I called a friend who works in consumer protection law to ask him what he thought. It's well established that the cost of temporary lodgings in case of a delay should be covered by the company, so I would seem to be in the clear here. It also helps that the guy makes threats as I write meticulous minutes of all my calls with him, as I do with my work calls. I'm also compiling a list of good practice violations to present to the relevant certification agencies, to have all their certificates if not revoked then at least suspended, though I'll wait doing that until the bathroom is done.

It's messing with my groove anyway. Sure I can make their life a living hell for a few months, but what I would have wanted was for the bathroom to be finished within contract so I could have moved back by now.

It's making me happy that the guy doesn't know what kind of work you do, Morgoth. Please write up a story when ever this ends that details the many ways in which you tear him a new paper asshole.

Martin McGuinness has died.
This is not messing with my groove per say, but the political football it has already turned into is.

ETA - also morgy, please do tear him a new one. Too many small contractors think they can ride roughshod over a client as they aren't dealing with a company.

When a teacher/tutor/trainer says something like "There's no such thing as a stupid question" part of me takes it a personal challenge... :p

I would love it if they asked questions.

They just stare at me like zombies.

What is so confusing about the sentence "Ports like Bristol and Liverpool expanded and developed in the Stuart period"????

It's always amusing when people break out the 'you'll have to take me to Court' threat and are then surprised and horrified when people take them to Court.

My brother teaches CEGEP (which is sort of like the Quebec version of college) and the stories he tells me just leave me baffled. He's been at it for over 10 years, and we think he's seen and heard it all, but every now and then he's still surprised. For example, one year he put an easy throwaway bonus question at the end of one of his tests, it was something along the lines of "This widely revered biblical figure was also a carpenter" and one of his students wrote Charlemagne as the answer. Needless to say we laughed, but it was a sad sort of "oh man, what kind of future are we facing?" type of laugh.
Teachers - you all deserve medals.

Oh I can believe it. Currently going through the mid-term American history papers, and so far, Andrew Jackson has cured smallpox, James Monroe was succeeded by Chiang Kai Shek who ascended the throne of America, and apparently USA conquered Western Europe using the Monroe Doctrine.

I must say their version of American history is quite exciting!Posted Image
