Very minor thing comparatively, but I'm sure my fellow Brits can empathise...

So I did a couple of washes this morning because it was a dry, bright and warm day, I hung them outside. I then put another wash on and thought I was doing well. Then it started tipping down with rain, so all the clothes that were nearly dry are now soaked and the third wash is nearly ready. I have no more space on the clothes horses to hang more clothes so I have to put the heating on so things will dry quicker on the radiators...

This also put an end to my plans to paint the fences and mow the lawn. :p

EDIT and now the sun has come out. :p

I don't know if you guys have them over there (being a backwoods type of place that rejects civilization) but here we have a little device called a Dryer. You put your clothes in and turn it on and my god it is magic they dry...

My stomach has been killing me today. I don't know what I ate or what but just bad enough to be uncomfortable but not enough for me to throw up and go home from work.
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

Driers make your electricity bill skyrocket. Especially in the summer, when AC is working a lot as is.

Dryers are nic to have for a rush wash, but whenever there's a chance to hang stuff outside to dry, it's usually a much better option.

We are thinking of getting a dryer but haven't really got space for one so there is a lot to consider.

Yes and when we all die from global warming at least we'll be content in the knowledge that you lot were in dry clothes and cool in summer.

Saying that, now that I've got a baby we'll be getting one in time for autumn. I'll still hang clothes outside as much as possible though because they smell sooooo good afterwards and a garden with laundry on the line looks so homely. I have a strange confession in that I find hanging out laundry and folding it afterwards very comforting.

Thanks for the support. My biggest issue isn't really snacking, it's portions at meals, and eating unhealthy at meals. I often catch myself ordering off a menu based on what looks like it will have the biggest portion instead of what looks tasty.

Not that I never snack. I do, it's the meals that will be hard for me.

That's ok, I find ironing laundry to be very zen. Though I usually do it without watching TV, which sometimes drives my parents into stupor as to how I can do it in silence, or just with music playing.

Yeah, when we can afford a power-guzzling appliance that triples our bill, we will get an AC. Dryers are not really a priority in a tropical country, even one with a monsoon

Outside drying lines are pretty rare these days in USA from what I see. I have drying racks in my laundry room where I hang most of my clothes to dry but also have a dryer for the rest.

That is your problem. You are using an all electric dryer. I have a gas one dryer. As much as I might like to hang lines who has the time to hang clothes. Get home from work at 4:30 put the kids to bed by 6:30/7:30 take a shower at 8:30 then watch tv and go to sleep at 10 then get up at 5:30 and start over again. My wifes schedule is slightly better but only in that she gets up at 6:30. Then there is the weekends when we have to spend time with the kids and get various errands run. I can toss a load in the wash and then in the dryer then take off to the grocery store or to the park or what not and not have to worry about anything.
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

At home only use small plates. That way you can still fill it up and feel like you are eating a bit but in reality it will be about half of what you would get on a full big plate. At restaurants regardless of what you order only eat half. If you have to immediately order a to go box and split the meal in half and put it in the box. That should help quite a bit, but you are going to have to be really consistent in it. Also don't and I can't stress this enough DON'T drink any Soda. Do drink a lot of water though.

When I worked in the States I was lying in the cabin one afternoon just reading my book peacefully when a big scary looking bug landed on me, around the crotch area. Without thinking I smacked it, hard.

Spoke a few registers higher for the rest of the afternoon...

Its amazing how much better you'll feel as well. I cut out soda about 5 months ago and now only drink water or coffee (and beer, of course).

And besides the obvious less calories and sugar, i didnt realize how jacked up my blood sugar highs and lows were. You really level out.

Give it a couple weeks without and you'll feel amazing.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

3rd night in a row that I am up all hours of the night, simply because it's way too damn hot to sleep! The fan just circulates warm air after about 10 minutes which is actually worse than useless; I've decided to sleep downstairs on the uncomfortable sofa the last 2 nights because the attic room in which I sleep is awful, feels like a sauna in there - or like some all-powerful entity who hates me is dangling it over a seething caldera!

Minor complaint in the scheme of things I guess but it's piling up at the moment but the sleeping has been an issue for a little while now. My girlfriend has been in hospital for over 2 weeks now due to conditions related to her kidney failure/diabetes - she is thankfully on the mend over the last couple of days finally - which is obviously weighing on my mind all the time, plus I hate hospitals in general so 3 till 8 everyday for 2 weeks has not been fun - which is not to say I begrudge being there for her, I don't at all, I hate having to leave her there; hospitals just kickstart my anxiety and hypochondria basically. I used to suffer quite badly from lack of sleep (I'd hesitate to call it full-blown insomnia) partly down to dietary/lifestyle choices and partly due to general and pervasive anxiety issues. It's been alot better in the last year or so since I made a few big changes to the way I live my life - a big one being cutting out caffeine completely! Seriously, even tea for awhile, being British that didn't stick though. But damn if I haven't been walking around like a Zombie on tranquilisers this last couple of weeks and it's really playing havoc with my anxiety issues. It doesn't help at all that I finally fall asleep at like 6-7am and then sleep right through to mid-afternoon and have to leave straight for the hospital. The few hours of sleep at that time of the day really don't do much to help me reboot, I wake up feeling less refreshed than when I slept! And it just means when I get back from the hospital I have to fit in everything I wanted to do in that day before I get some sleep - so I'm invariably faffing around with crap till 1-2am then trying and failing to get any sleep. I would say it's a nightmarish cycle, but the descriptor is simply too laden with irony to be very funny for me. The monotonous routine of house-hospital-house-hospital is more than a little depressing as well - I struggle to imagine how Sarah must feel being stuck in there, which of course makes me feel worse. Just blech in general atm the moment tbh.

AND BY GOD THIS INSUFFERABLY, MUGGY, HUMID, FUCKING HEAT IS DRIVING ME MENTAL!!!!!!

If you can, sleep on the floor. Put a sheet down, pillow up as needed, and sleep. It'll be cooler and more comfortable than the bad sofa.

I hope you and your spouse find good ways to occupy the down time, that she mends sooner rather than later, and that you can keep the positive energy going around her.

When this happens, I think you gotta slow down and zoom out. Look at the person through a broader lens, remind yourself what you like and/or admire about them. Maybe they'll hold up, maybe they won't, but it will at least remove you from the immediate disagreement. You may also reevaluate if bothering with that disagreement is even worthwhile. As an extreme example, if you have a 90 year old great aunt who you saw a lot as a kid and love and cherish as a result, but as you mature you find out she's a racial bigot, I don't think there's necessarily any value in having heated debates with her. She's not gonna have that epiphany, and you can just grit your teeth when it comes up. That might be waaaaaaaay off from what you're talking about, but in a general sense I just don't think ever issue needs to be reconciled. Everyone's gonna die soon enough, their individual opinion likely means very little in the grand scheme of things.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.
