That still doesn't look very reassuring!

Apt - we won't be discussing my vagina, thank you very much.

What about me and you? We've met in real life, that's a good enough reason to discuss someones hoohoo, right?

The transit in my city is a shit show whenever anything goes wrong. It's outdated (the 1950's) as a system...and though we have some new subways and streecars...the lines are just too old and messed up (and not automated enough). Full disclosure: In the 1990's the premier of my province removed all involvement of the province and provincial funds from Toronto's public transit (he was a super dick, NO ONE liked him) leaving it entirely up to the city. As a result there has been 20 years of growth and NO money to fix the infrastructure or update it. They bandaid it all the time and that's it. Oh, and our fares get hiked sometimes twice a year with no service improvement.

Today we have the second "fire investigation" in a two week period. On other transit systems this would cause an issue, but would be dealt with without dropping service to zero as a result. They run "shuttle buses" when the subways go down. There are never enough of them to handle the flow of riders. They snarl already rush hour traffic. And getting on one is a crapshoot...and even if you do, you're crammed on like sardines with other irate, unruly passengers. You are literally better off staying at home.

They can't handle problems that arise on such a level that they actually have to ask the train corporation (GO Transit) and the UPX (airport transfer) to accept TTC riders for free to move people.

That's how shitty our transit system is. I want to help the environment by taking public transit whenever I can (it's the reason I've always chosen to take it)...but days like these I think I should just get a goddamn car. They are never going to be able to fix this.

Pretty much. When the transit system in a busy city like Shanghai (a city of 26 million), for example, can run for multiple years without a major delay...and we can't even go a week....I just don't know what to say about that. All that blame falls at the feet of Mike Harris. I hope he's sitting somewhere watching his TV and noting that everyone still hates him for what he did. He's probably more hated than Rob Ford was. And that's saying something.

I was also stuck in said transit jam. About 20 min late for work, meaning I'll be staying about half an hour later in the evening.

Basically, I never schedule any appointments before 10 AM, because I can never be sure how late the commute will make me.

Oh, and the "other" investigation QT mentioned 2 Thursdays ago? Took me almost 3 hours to get home: subway delays, shuttle bus thru traffic, then another half an hour not knowing if there's gonna be Subway running or more shuttles, and a whole crowd moving back and forth between the bus platforms and the train tracks underground

That one took me 5 hours to get home (a normally 30 minute trip)...I got fed up after an hour of trying to get on a shuttle bus at Islington (where two thousand people were milling on a street corner while police tried to keep control) and walked from Islington to Dundas West (which is a fair hike)...then was able to get back on the subway. But the fact that it was a fire investigation at two stations...and yet they shut down half the goddamned line...was insane.

Sorry you got stuck in the chaos too Ment! Ugh, what a shitshow.

Yeah, I got shuttled from Keele to Jane, but then the staff kept sending mixed messages how it was gonna work further west (I needed to get to Islington to transfer to a 'Sauga bus to go home). That's what took the longest- moving back and forth between the bus platforms and the subway tunnels- b/c TTC staff couldn't make up their minds- will there be westbound trains? Or more shuttle buses? Ugh.

I stopped at Keele on my walk because that's where they said I could get on an eastbound train again...but they moved us all the way along the platform, and down the stairs and across the station and told us to go to the other platform...and it was when I could not even get onto that other platform from the amount of people (westbounders coming down through all the eastbounders) I said Fuck it and walked to Dundas West instead. When that happens you want to record it on video just to show Brad Ross and Andy Byford how completely their staff screw up emergencies

Same was true this morning. They said "You can get on at St. George"...but neglect to tell you what a shitshow the platofrm is going to be and how you will likely have to wait through 4 or 5 trains to get on one with space.

Heh. I transfer lines @ Spadina. Came from Kipling and beyond the delays I had a fairly smooth trip.

I've had bad days though, when they suddenly close eastbound in the morning and unload 5 or 6 consecutive trains @ Keele. The platform becomes a human sardines can before they finally decide to announce shuttles.

I'm kinda lucky: I have alternatives of catching a northbound bus to St. Clair and then streetcar down the street to work, but that's not really an option for those heading to the Core....

Yeah that sounds like a decent alternative. Technically we shouldn't have to find those alt routes though, they ought to have contingencies (not shuttle buses) that work. They never will though. Sigh.

There are certain talks it really, really stinks to have with another person. Think telling a person BAD THING has happened and having to be there for that and for them.

I can't imagine doing this with strangers like some people have to do, this is hard enough already. Ugh.

Found out that my ex husband was indicted last week on 9 counts of 3rd degree felony possession of child pornography. My mind is blown, and I I keep wondering if my daughter will see him again or if I want her to. How do you explain this?

That is incredibly heavy stuff. So re: explanation, I say don't at least any time soon (but I don't know the age of your daughter, so there's a caveat there). Re: wanting her to see him, an inclination not to seems like a good approach. If something comes to a legal head after that, the court can decide, but obviously the kid's welfare is your #1. Once she's an adult (or in your mind old enough to protect herself, whenever that comes) then she'll be able to make her own decision.

That's just my feeling off the bat. It's such a big thing that I'm not sure advice from strangers is even helpful, but if you wanted reassurance on leaning towards keeping your daughter away from him, I think it's wise.

She's 4 and he only has supervised visitation... I just hate that she asks for him etc. Also It is just hard to believe I was married to him etc.

Bliss, I can begin to imagine the emotions and thoughts that are swirling. I went through the ringer when I found out about a family member's inclinations. I found out on thanksgiving day which meant that all the usual sources of professional advice, guidance and comfort were unavailable. Thankfully I was able to reach out to an estranged uncle who is a minister. I have an abiding hatred dislike of shamans but they do know the full extent of the depths of the human soul. That was enough to get me through until I could talk to the pros.

Man that's just heartbreaking all around. Just to elaborate, when I say don't explain it, I just meant going into detail isn't at all necessary. But of course you know that already. The basic "he did a bad thing and the police had to put him in jail" explanation though? Tbh that sounds awful in and of itself, but reality is what it is. That's a pretty awful judgement call to have to make, and I'm sorry he did this to you guys. I don't think a 4 year old can process it truly, and at the same time I can't imagine what you could say besides the truth.

I concur with the above sentiments Bliss. So sorry to hear that especially with your daughter wanting to see her dad and no knowing what he is. That's terrible.
