We recently let go a disfunctional employee. We have 3 FTE available work, and due to the guy going, we lack geographical cover for part of our "competition free" environment.
But.... my boss and I have just been informed that we're not going to hire anyone in his stead. Yet we're asked to join a second brainstorming session on how to acquire even more customers - for which we then of course don't have any cover.

Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

If it was about ethics in games journalism they would have highlighted issues with ethics in games journalism. That has yet to happen as far as I'm aware.

Aye, I guess if it was about ethics in journalism you wouldn't suggest that a guy violated journalism ethics by sleeping with a game dev (supposedly) and then not writing a review on it, clearly exercising his huge power to influence gamers at large.
I mean I guess cancelling a talk at a college by someone because you call in threats that you are going to shoot up the place is all about 'ethics', right?
Or maybe forcing women journalists and game devs out of their homes (and getting the FBI involved!) with very specific rape/murder threats is quite ethical behavior, right?
Its a core of misogyny being amplifed by trolls and making these people think that there are a lot of people that identify with them, and that 'games r 4 mens only' is a good/realistic/acceptable message to send.
But don't worry, any male celebrity who speaks out against the misogyny inherent in the 'culture' these people represent get cursed at, any female celebrity gets doxxed. Totally not misogynistic, right?

I've read a couple of articles on this gamer thingy (I refuse to add -gate to the end of things, it makes me angry) and I am always left terribly perplexed. On the one hand the terrible misogyny is about as depressing as Morgy said but the articles are always throwing around names of people I don't know and things that I don't care about so I kind of don't give a shit.

Yeah, remember when NFL star Chris Kluwe called Gamergate people (and I quote)
1. Lazy
2. Ignorant
3. Blithering collection of wannabe Wikipedia philosophers, drunk on your own buzzwords, incapable of forming an original thought.
4. Angry neckbeards
5. Paint-huffing shitgoblins
6. Slopebrowed weaseldicks with zero reading comprehension and even less critical thinking skills
7. Basement-dwelling, cheetos-huffing, poopsock-sniffing douchepistols
8. Slackjawed pickletits
9. Hemorrhoidal gunt stains
10. FUCKING DUMB
11. Pestilent little toads
12. Too busy wargleblargling your face into your keyboard
13. Misogynistic mouthbreathers who get off on making rape threats against women as part of your “movement”
14. Fucking misogynistic creeps
And nothing happened to him, but when actress Felicia Day posted about how she was afraid to mention Gamergate because she was scared she'd get her personal details posted online, and then had her personal details posted in the comments of her post? Good* times.

There are places where the comments are downright useful to read. However, these are only found in strongly moderated communities e.g. Ta-Nehisi Coates' Atlantic comments, Bloody Elbow's comments and a few others. I helped build the Bloody Elbow one since about 2008.
They actually take less time to regulate as they get older, even though a sort of Eternal September exists, because the community self regulates to a degree. It's really in the unregulated zones that the conduct standards drop to the grimy floor and people begin to revel in its" forbiddeness".
That's the same zones where the worst of the game stuff and extremist stuff like the ISIS volunteers are coming from. The grimy floor standards attract outsiders who take anger, fear and mental disorders out on targets who can't hurt them in return.

Can't say I've actually read anything at all related to this so-called gamergate phenomena, despite being fairly into games myself I never, ever read reviews and such just doesn't interest me. From what I have seen about it on Facebook and other such cauldrons of personal opinion it seems to me to be a rabble of arseholes attempting to clothe outright misogyny in important pseudo-intellectual babble about ethics. Frankly I imagine most of them are just scared of women encroaching on the avenue of escapism they used to avoid the fact that women have always found them to be anathema to their very person, or indeed people in general.
Heck like I said above I tend to pay zero attention to gaming journalism for the most part, I buy the games, I play the games, I love the games or I hate them. So maybe there is an issue in gaming journalism about ethics, considering journalism as a whole it wouldn't surprise me, but the colossal pricks involved in gamergate certainly aren't attempting to address it.

Reading this article:

Read that in total about 4 trillion was spent on QE.
Doing the math in my head what 4 trillion equates to and overall debt.

My hearing aids are only partially effective. Seems I have dead zones where I can't hear anything. The reason they didn't show up on my first hearing test was that I didn't know what tones were being played and I hear a different (and really freaking annoying) sound when subjected to those tones. The only thing my audiologist can do is let me get accustomed to the aids for another week or two and then try turning up the volume to see if there is a point where I hear those sounds correctly.
This last visit also ended up with another referral to an ENT specialist to see if they can figure out what has caused my hearing loss. The fear being that it is progressive and I may end up being unable to hear anything at frequencies higher than around 1kHz. Seeing as my new aids are already boosting everything between 2kHz and 6kHz to over 100db just so I can hear it, that thought scares me.
More worrisome to me is the thought that this may migrate into my lower end hearing. I haven't been able to get an answer to that yet, and want one yesterday.
