What sort of breed? The ones who are starting to date and do that kind of "stuff"? Well, I wouldn't get too down about it. I mean, it's not as if you're a pathetic loser if you haven't had a gf by your age. Far from it. I hadn't, and was still wide-eye stupid about girls. Around the start of Year 11 though things started to turn around for me. So give it time, and don't rush anything, because that'll just make you more self-conscious and be more of a hindrance than a help.

As to the girl, well, I'd befriend her, or at least be on friendly terms with her. Talk to her at parties, at school etc. and establish a rapport. If she reciprocates the feeling then go for it. If you're not sure, then go for it anyway. worst thing she can say is no, and you'll be regretting it if you don't at least have a crack.

Wis it were that simple...we live fairly far apart (25-30 minds between our houses), we go to different schools, and-my greatest mistake-I sent her a Valentine's Day card, with all the predictable content such a card entails. I mean, I had liked her "that way" for about 3 years, and I hadn't made any...advances, coward that I am. It is one godawful mess. Her family's been around to our place and vice-versa 3 times now and she hasn't been present. I think I've scared her off.

But I'm derailing this thread; don't mind me.

Hehe, there was an article in the Telegraph about the Australia - Windies game with the headline "It's like watching England." :p

Sir Thursday
Don't look now, but I think there's something weird attached to the bottom of my posts.

Thanks....I was hoping for something more confidence-instilling.

Mappo, I require your wise counsel on this matter. Or dumb counsel, just tell me what to do! :p

Email her, tell her you're sorry if you made her uncomfortable. Explain that you don't have some crazy obsession over her, and there's no reason for her to avoid the family time just because of you. Use the phrase "I understand how things are, and I'm ok with that."

Then, even though you do have some crazy obsession, and are certainly NOT cool with how things are, move on. You made you pitch, she wasn't buying it. Nothing to do but accept it and move on with your life.

Sucks, but that's life. Sorry buddy.

My wife is leaving me, she decided that about six months ago she wasn't happy with our marriage, her life and everything. I wanted us to go to counseling, no go though. Now she's narrowed the focus to just me. I feel like my world is ending, and a part of it is ending. I never thought this would happen to me.

So, moral of the story?

You can give them the world, and they will still give you sh1t if they feel like it.

OMG! That is terrible fiddler! I am so verry sorry, I don't even know what to say to you. In fact I know there's probably nothing anyone can say to you right now that would make it any better. Again I am really sorry to hear this and my thoughts will definitely be with you.

Damn...sorry to hear that, Fid. Hope things work out fine (i.e. she doesn't slug you with Custody Wars).

@RLY

That's just it-I don't know if she likes me back. I've received little evidence either way. True, it would be right to tell her I'm sorry for making her uncomfortable, but I just don't know.

At any rate, I intend to persevere. I will thrash it out with her next time I see her-she can't hide forever. :)

I went to a wedding on saturday - it was great.

I remember the champagne, and then the wine, and then the champagne, and then more wine, and then... oh.

I woke up on the sofa on sunday morning; the bathroom carpet was rolled up in the garden (not a good sign) and I was still... extremely... drunk. I am not popular.

Everything hurts, kidneys, liver, the lot. I've been trying to cut down on the booze, too..
haven't had any in 5 weeks, which is something of a record for me.

The free bar was obviously too much of a temptation, *sigh*...

I'm really not going near the stuff again for a looong time.

Especially as I'm going to be hearing about this one for ages....

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Ah, young Padawan, you have received evidence. You spilled you guts to her, on Valentine's day in a card, and she never contacted you afterwards. That's evidence. Sorry. If she felt the same way, you would have heard something back after sending that card. /toughlove

Oh Fiddler, that's awful! There really is nothing I can say. Anything I did would just sound trite and banal. There's a ton of moral support here, but I can't even begin to imagine what you're going through.

That's no good at all.

Damn...
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants.
