I'm a bit more concerned about the US edition. There is no cover art yet, and the pub date seems to have been postponed. . .

Pat, do you think we'll even get a separate US cover? Tor is now reprinting GotM with the UK cover with the tower on it, so I fear the rest of the series might be switching to the UK covers...

Don't know, but it is a possibility.
The last time I was in touch with Todd Lockwood, he told me that Tor had not approached him for the DoD cover. . .

Didn't you (or Wert?) say that Lockwood hated doing Fantasy covers?
Oh well, Lots of the UK covers are better than the US covers, I point your attention to tBH. LITTLE RED RIDING WAGON!

Are you thinking of Darrel K. Sweet (sp)? I thought Lockwood did mostly fantasy, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, the "I hate doing fantasy covers" is Sweet, fo' sho'. All the more ironic, as he's one of the more prolific fantasy cover artists out there.
Lockwood's online gallery is full of fantasy stuff, and his bio reads like a fantasy junkie, so I doubt he's said anything similar to Sweet's quote.

"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Since Lockwood makes his living painting fantasy covers, I doubt he would make such a claim. . .

Sure, but at least the new Transformers movie doesn't suck, right? ...Right?

Ah well, you'll hate me even more when I tell you that SE's editor just notified me to say that FedEx picked up a set of DoD page proofs for me today. I don't think they ship during the weekend, which means that I should get my hands on it early next week if all goes well. . .

So I can start with the request for when you get the package and upcoming review?
Something like:
- Size. You said that the book should be around 350k, with the page proof you should be able to tell more precisely how it compares to the recent volumes (TTH was 390k, MoI 350k).
- Erikson said this is the first part of the end. Without spoilers I'd like to know how well the book picks up the various plot threads and mysteries. With just this part it won't be possible to say if the conclusion for this 10 volume series is a fitting one, but you should be able to have a better idea of how much is going to have a proper closure, and how much instead will be left unexplained or simply forgotten. As stuff starts to move you should be able see what are the main threads that are going to be used and what is left out.
I'm still at book 4, but I'd like to know if many mysteries about the empire, Laseen and Shadowthrone are going to have a role in the last book, or if the plot moves in a totally different direction leaving all the rest behind.

These three story-threads are picked up on more in Esslemont's books (particulalry Return of the Crimson Guard). Erikson drops them around Book 6, although I expect Shadowthrone will be back in 9 and 10. There's quite a few story threads that have been dropped by Erikson either to be picked up on in the sequel trilogy or by ICE in his books.

Well, I know you have a personal issue with the Jade statues
That's what I'm asking in general, both about things I know and don't know yet, whether threads are picked up in a satisfying way. Giving explanations to questions left hanging.
