Of course, it looks like Tor is just reusing/tweaking the Bantam covers now anyway...

Is there even a good reason to do this? How much does it cost to commission a new piece of artwork for a book?

I would guess between 3-10k.

Besides paying the artist for the painting, you've also got the designer who has to format all the cover text and position the cover art appropriately.

Plus, how long does it take to paint the cover art? That factors into the decision, too.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Does anyone know when the book's coming out in Australia? For once, I was busy enough to not order it off Amazon. Now I'm free to read but the book's not out in the stores!

I was looking on Amazon to order the Tor edition of Dust of Dreams, as it seems the american hardcover has finally been published this month, and I find it odd that there's no cover art shown on the page of the book. And it's the same on other sites, like Barnes & Noble. Does that mean that Tor eventually didn't use the english cover and order a real new one (to Todd Lockwood ?) ?
