I just pre-order from amazon.uk and wait for the inevitable moment when Canada Post fucks me sideways and sends it to a bombed out tea shop in Mogadishu.

- Abyss, has learned from experience.

They must be building quite an Erikson following in Mogadishu, because that's what amazon.uk does with every one of my books. They have had to resend a couple of them already.

So it would appear that the US release is after the New Year. Methinks a visit to Amazon is in order to buy the book and support the forum.
@ Wampyry: thanks for the cost heads-up...less than $35USD seems fair enough.
I could wait for the holidays, but the suspense is killing me !
There's a time to parley...this is not that time.

So is this actually out in Canada? My local Indigo says it's not actually coming out 'til January, and it's still a pre-order on Amazon.ca.

I'm an Amurrican and I bought it from the UK. Had to get my hands on it faster than that. I recommend you do that.

Or you just continue being Canadien and doing everything slow. Heee hee he.

The reason I ask is that the Canadian release date is listed as September 1st. Not much point in ordering it from the UK if it's already out here. :p

I preordered the book at my local Chapters. They said it would be available Sept. 1. It wasn't; I'll be some ticked if I have to wait until January. :p

Earnestness, in turn, leads to sanctimonious self-righteousness, which breeds intolerance, upon which harsh judgment quickly follows, yielding dire punishment, inflicting general terror and paranoia, eventually culminating in revolt, leading to chaos, then dissolution, and thus, the end of civilisation."

I just called two local book stores here in Canada and they have no clue what is going on. One said the order was cancelled. The other that nothing is in the hopper until January. both agreed that the date listed was September 1st.

Anyone have any idea what is going on here in Canada? It is confirmed that i can order it from the UK? I have checked Amazon.ca and it will let me order, but i am not going to order if i have to wait til January anyway!

Hey folks, I have a question about The Book Depository and the formats. The Book Depository has the Paperback listed as in stock and likely to ship in 72 hours, but the release date isn't until November. Now, I happen to like the paperback version better. It is more manageable, but sacrifices the use of the book as a murder weapon. I can live with that. However, I do not want to order it and end up not getting anything until November because of some odd error or glitch in the system. Anyone know what is going on with the paperback version? Is it out and shipping or is it just some screw up? Also, I usually order after the US release, but did not want to wait this time around--the paperback and hardcover usually have a simultaneous release over here. Is it normal to ship the paperback several months after the release of the hardcover in the UK?

@Winter:

You won't have to wait until november until you get the paperback, I just bought it myself from a bookshop in Berlin, so it's out (at least if the place you're buying it from say they have it in stock). Thing is though: the current paperback edition has an enormous format, probably just as large as the hardcover.

Thanks! Yeah, that is the kind I am looking for. The hardcover version is too cumbersome and the mass market is too small to contain the sheer amount of pages stuffed into it. The trade allows for the flexibility of a paperback with the quality and size of a hardcover. :D

I've been posting on the "Got it" thread.
I have received the Trade Paper versions of K & KB and Dust of Dreams - ordered on September 9th, so reasonably fast. Certainly a better option than waiting for Amazon or Indigo.

This may be a no brainer, but DoD is the same format/cover style/spine design as the other Trade Paper for Reaper's Gale and Toll the Hounds (i.e they match and look awesome on my bookshelf).

Am I the only person worried that when I open the package it will be different? I was a little disappointed that K & KB was so different in design. WHY oh WHY? :)

I preordered mine from Chapters back in April. The site still says September 1st 2009, but now also says "Temporarily Unavailable to Order New". September 1st has come and gone and I haven't heard anything from them. I'm not holding my breath at this point. This will likely be the last time I pre-order anything from Chapters...

At least I have Crack'd Pot Trail to look forward to in December, preordered from the publisher.

Can you not cancel your order? I would recommend Book Depository and you'll only be waiting for 10 days or so.

I've had the same problem, but this is the first time ever with chapters.
I have been wondering if it is there problem or the publisher/distributor.

I would never buy the abominations that are the Tor covers anyway...

I don't think they're actually abominations. This is a discussion better suited for a cover art thread, but suffice to say that the UK covers just do a muuuuuch better job at 1) actually being designed to be cover art and 2) doing a great job of conveying the menace and "differentness" of the series.

Of course, it looks like Tor is just reusing/tweaking the Bantam covers now anyway...
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"
