I just had an email from Amazon saying that my copy of DoD will not be sent on August 26th as they had originally said, but instead on August 17th. I love news like that. It will put me in a good mood for at least a week.

Hi guys, I come humbly seeking your help.

I'm after the trade paperback UK edition of Dust of Dreams. I've managed to track down UK TPBs of GotM and DG, and have bought all the other books as they were released in TPB, so I'm not going to change habits now :D (side question: does anybody know if the real first edition TPB of GotM has different lettering on the spine to the rest of the series? Mine does - it's much larger. I don't really care if it's not a true first edition - although the publishing info says Bantam 1999, which is a pretty good indication - but it would be nice to know if I really had picked one up for a bargain.)

Anyway, my real question is, does anybody know the ISBN or some other identifying detail of this particular edition? Amazon are notoriously bad at differentiating their editions, and the publishing dates are no help, as everyone knows. And the Book Depository doesn't even seem to have the UK TPB listed. I've done what I'd call a pretty thorough search, but I can't find any conclusive evidence, not even on Transworld's official site (which is only listing the hardback at the moment). Once I have the ISBN, I can email the bookseller of my choice and say 'direct me to this book', but I don't want to take a chance on edition when the postage for sending the book to Australia and back again for a refund would probably exceed the price of the book itself :)

Thanks for any help you can possibly give. :p

If I'm not mistaken, DoD is a hardback only release in the UK this summer. For the trade paperback, I guess you'll have to fall back on the international export edition. Your best bet for that will likely be amazon.ca...

Oh, thanks Pat. Has this happened before? I haven't bought a Malazan book on schedule since Midnight Tides (got a bit busy with school and uni, and I ran out of money) so I got a bit lost with the publishing info!

Amazon.ca gives me these results, which paradoxically include copies published by Tor in hardcopy and TPB in September, and the Bantam copies being delayed until Jan 2010 :S

Maybe the best thing to do is just wait for a bit.

I was hoping to get the book sometime this year. Pat do you know if SE has turned in the manuscript yet?

Along those same lines, does anyone know when the US hardcover edition will be released? Like the man said, that's what I've been getting all along and I don't believe I'll change now.

Amazon now says April 2010.

W00t! I should be getting a review copy of DoD.

Of course, the 'review' copies are being shipped out barely just ahead of the books hitting the shelves, so it's entirely possible I won't get it much ahead of everyone else.

Tor Books says April 2010 here, but I've seen September 2009 at Chapters etc.

September 2009 would be an import edition, I'd think.

You'd expect so. I just searched the Tor hardcover's ISBN and got that Chapters result, but they've probably just stuffed up their information.

If this is legit, I might need to buy it from canada because I really don't want to wait another, what seven months? Anybody know what shipping to the US costs from canada, or how US $ transfer to Canadian dollars?

You can get the shipping cost by running the order through Amazon and stopping just short of the "confirm my order" step.

Also, Google does currency conversions (and most measurement conversions as well); just type the conversion you're looking for, like "19.50 USD to CAD". (Result: $18.02)

You could buy it from the Book Depository in the UK. They have free shipping anywhere in the world. They're just as fast as the Amazon UK in shipping to the US too.

I might just do that. it would get here sooner (I really don't want to wait long for this), but I'm kind a nerd for sticking with Tor for sake of consistency (not that they've been doing a whole lot to keep some consistency between the books, but I digress) hmmm, I must ponder.

Amazon UK is telling me it shall be delivered by the 20th. I hope this is still true! I will have just completed a reread of the entire series (including NoK & ROTCG) so everything is very clear in my head now. Sweet timing, eh?

Steve's publisher has told me that Dust of Dreams - all shiny and new and a finished copy - landed on his desk this morning from the printers:)

It will be followed in November by a UK hard cover version of GotM - just in time for the 10th anniversary.
