There is this fan created CIV 4 mod called fall from heaven. It is simply brilliant. Apparently its a realisation of an old D&D ruleset thingy and its got magic, dragons and allsorts. Its simply awesome. If you've got Civ4 Beyond the Sword, its the fall from heaven 2 mod and is available through Civfanatics.

I stumbled upon it by accident and was really impressed as you can tell.

BTW where is all the other stuff that used to be here?

One of my roommates have been with this since the begining, and has supposedly written most of the text in the mod.. So, I've been following the development of this quite closely. ridiculously complicated, but great fun. I just hope they found a way to balance the vampire team, and the spell casters

Vampires can't be balanced in anything without being nerfed.
Simple.

I'd look into this mod, if I played Civ4....

Not bitter.
Vampire's are just hard to do right. If you do them...."realistically"....they end up like gods. Do them any other way, and they are too weak...

Fall from Heaven is really good fun, especially if you cheat and give yourself a bunch of mana nodes

Some of us are just so good at this game we don't need to cheat, but it's nice that you've found a way to win too :)

hi guys, I'm glad I'm not the only one here who has been bitten by the FFH2 bug. The thing is I'm crashing far, far too much and its starting to curl my nose hairs. Is it the same for everyone? If I save regularly then it seems to run longer without crashes, but that doesn't sound overly technical. I'm going to post on Civfanatics and see what their techs say.

Entering worldbuilder is a crime against yourself. I would never do anything like that *guilty cough*...

And where do you get this?

QUOTE (Stalker @ Jan 23 2009, 01:09 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
So last night I was walking downtown for some pizza at like 1am with some friends of mine,
and someone said, "I'm so hungry I could eat a whole pizza."

I said, "I bet I could eat 100 pizzas," and no one understood me. I was sad.

Master of magic

baaaaam

Joking of course. This is the game I dumped roughly half my early teens into. I always wished they'd make into a modern strategy game a la CIV4 (or some such thing). It had research, magic, heroes, fantastic beasts, resource management, empire building AND strategic combat. Totally fun

Sounds like this Fall from Heaven is just the modern Master of Magic equivalent that I was wishing for though. Like I need another computer game though...jeezus. Will probly check it out in the near future

thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the

sorry dude, its not virtual memory problems, my bad, its video memory that seems to cause the issue if the alert popup thingy is anything to go by...My specs are definitely more than last season, however:

core 2 6600
1 gig ram
ati radeon 1900xt 256mb
250Gig seagate HD

but i'm above the recommended requirements of the game. Civ4 itself has almost never crashed on me. The crashes tend to happen when I end my turn and while the Ai does its moves. If one of the AI players tries to talk to me crash. And today I got a crash when an enemy attack took place. And if I jump from section to section on the map the game crashes.

The game in question is Civilization 4, the expansion is Beyond the Sword and the Mod is Fall from Heaven 2. FYI :)

No its the general laziness of the world that is the problem, lets all save a millisecond, I mean if you save enough of them up during the course of your life.....

Hmm...crashing when things are happening. That's definitely a RAM issue, whether it's your video card RAM, or just a general deficit in the RAM department is the tricky part.
I"d say that the mod is using up too much of your normal RAM - the card can technically draw on that all that it wants, so...you aren't running Vista, are you? Because if you are, then your RAM requirements are probably too low for the game + mod.
If you're running XP, then....well, the card may just be the weak link. Unlikely, though, unless you're running other stuff.

Cheers silencer, Im running XP pro, and I've been meaning to add ram for some time now, the general concensus from the civfanatics site is lower my settings :). smaller maps and all that. but my computer has been slowing down for some time now. It may be ready for a format according to my techwise little brother...Its either that or sledgehammer time. or my computer could be riddled with trojans and dirty little viruses...or a combination. the more I think about it the more I get the feeling that resources are being used by nastyware and this is what could be causing the problems.

I think i'll order some ram, start backing up useful data and get ready for zapping time. poop. thanks for the input and if you think I am going about it the wrong way tell me soon, please, i'm going to get the ball rolling fast. Thanks again Silencer

No, that's a good idea.
Despite having my hard-out desktop computer, my laptop is finally in need of an upgrade itself (as it's still chugging along on a 1.8GHz single-core, 256Mb RAM!!!, and 40GB of hard disk space. :) ). Thankfully, all my gaming needs are met by my other computer - 2.4GHz Q6600, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, 8800GTX w/756Mb onboard memory.

Definitely get some more RAM though. Your card...may need an upgrade. Not until next year though, I should think, unless you want to play Crysis or something. :)
