The, uhm, kitchen counter came in today for the new kitchen in the new apartement. A smooth white stone counter with a little bit of crystal in it to make stains not quite so visible. It looks great! I've never had such a modern and spacious kitchen to cook in before.

Is it actual stone or that stuff I keep hearing about lately that causes respiratory problems for the guys that cut and install it? Can't recall the overall name of it, sorry.

That doesn't sound much like stone, but maybe the aussies use a different definition.

Yeah there's like some sort of compressed particle stone version. Nasty shit by all accounts.

So do you have pics of your new kitchen?

Quartz. Working with it can cause Silicosis.

And if his countertops are smooth white stone with crystal , it’s probably Quartz.

It’s become a big deal lately, so most manufacturers are hopefully wearing proper PPE.

HEY CONGRATS!

That's excellent news sir.

As someone who has two little ones, I can tell you they will be both the best of friends and the bitterest of enemies.

Hope all goes well with the scan.

Congratulations tiste

I'm on this site for the first time in years and it's nice seeing some faces.

There does seem to be alot less traffic on the site though. It seems less busy especially the book forum though we have alot of ICE novels and a new SE book.

'researchers at Google in collaboration with physicists at Stanford, Princeton and other universities say that they have used Google's quantum computer to demonstrate a genuine "time crystal." [...]

"The consequence is amazing: You evade the second law of thermodynamics," said [...] director of the Max Planck Institute[...]

[...]

Time crystals are also the first objects to spontaneously break "time-translation symmetry," the usual rule that a stable object will remain the same throughout time. A time crystal is both stable and ever-changing, with special moments that come at periodic intervals in time.

[...]

The new time crystal demo marks one of the first times a quantum computer has found gainful employment.

[.... quantum computers] could be used to simulate the particles of any imaginable quantum system.

A time crystal exemplifies that vision. It's a quantum object that nature itself probably never creates, given its complex combination of delicate ingredients. Imaginations conjured the recipe, stirred by nature's most baffling laws.

The discovery that, in the case of time, only discrete time-translation symmetry may be broken by time crystals puts a new angle on the distinction between time and space.'

... but wishing I'd invested more in Alphabet! Hm... still time (for now).
