Disappointment? Disinterest? An inability to finish the second book?

1 & 2 are the only good ones, cuz they're actually detective novels. After that the premise gets dropped for pure urban fantasy w/ only thin surface nods to anything detective-y.

And not as good as anything by Goodkind right?

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

"Goodkind" and "love" don't really belong in the same sentence... :p

What's making me happy? It's Friday, dammit! Every Friday after work I treat myself (it's usually food-related, tbh); it can be as simple as ordering in a pizza or some sushi, or going to my local Italian bakery to get some cannoli or tiramisu. I haven't yet decided what to do for tonight, but man am I looking forward to whatever it is I decide to snarf down.

Yesterday I finally hit my main milestone of losing 100 pounds. I had gotten close right before christmas but the holidays really sidetracked me. 100poinds gone since July.

Also it's my birthday. Yesterday to celebrate we went to a brazilian steakhouse, which if you are not familiar is all you can eat and they just bring spits of 16 different cuts of meat and cut your serving at the table. It was glorious.

Urgh. Those phases where you think you and the other half should split up but then you come out the other side and it's like "thank fuck". Having kids really puts the strain on.

Oh and I unblocked a horrendously blocked outside drain today. We have been poking at it with sticks for a week or two (relationship metaphor possibly) but then my concentrated sulphuric acid came in the post and I got a small chemical burn on my forearm. But the water is flowing again so all worthwhile.

This is an extremely funny post. Good luck with not burning yourself in the future.

Nothing like a good chemical burn makeover to rekindle a relationship.

Lol. Is that Emile from Robocop? If so that is one of Mr PigDogs favourite films and it is so uncanny I'm worried you have a wiretap.

Got into our Daycare of choice for the little one when the time comes at the end of Mat Leave. It's also KIND of messing because of the cost being so ridiculous in our city for care. We only have to manage that exorbitant rate for 6 months though as once she hits 18months old, the cost drops by a few hundred dollars. This place is apparently incredible though, and one of the best in the city (if not THE best)...so at least our daughter will be well looked after.

That's really great, QT!

The idea of having to use daycare is terrifying to me and I am beyond grateful that it's not something we have to worry about. But if things changed and we had no choice, then knowing that you are sending them somewhere that has a trustworthy reputation and is well-sought after would make the process easier I would imagine.

I suspect the higher cost is due to the need for extra staff in the 0 to 18 months room. Over here, the ratio for kids to carer is different depending on the age range. The pre-toddler rooms need more staff for less kids.

Yeah, the extra cost is fairly typical for the 0-18mntbs crew across most care centres here. But the city is about $500/mnth more than the suburbs charge for the same...so it's still kinda steep.

My sisters two kids (both grown now) had my brother-in-law's retired mother to look after them, I wish we had that too! LOL

Ah well. It's good to know she's in a trustworthy, reputable place. That helps me with the notion of how expensive it is.
