Tools! I found a cherry 100+ year old Hay-budden anvil @ 250 pounds with 90%+ rebound. You sit here looking at a tool built literally at the height of the industrial age that's pock marked and scarred and just wonder it's true story...What it's seen and what was made on it... The face is amazing.
This thing has centuries left of use and that really really speaks volumes about the the industrial age.

Attended my first ever session of Judo tonight. I expected to be put off by the competitive mindset of the martial art, but it was actually quite fun.
I'm sure I made a fool of myself more than once - my brain totally shuts off as soon as blood starts to flow to my muscles and I get stupid - but I had a lot of fun and my body hurts the good way.
Also applied for a really interesting research assistant volunteer position (those are almost as competitive as actual jobs in the department to which I applied) and had an interview today. Hopefully I'll hear back from them.

Judo hurts, but it is very much fun. Try to use your grips like a steering wheel to drive your uke to one side or the other in tandem.
Good luck with the position.

Sometime last year, I convinced my manager that I need a secure flash drive for when I take work home, so that in case I lose it, no confidential info can get in the wrong hands.
She agreed, and ordered a Kanguru Defender 2000. Once it arrived, I could not get it to work. I spent about a month corresponding back and forth with tech support, trying various things. I even had a remote service session where they took remote access of my laptop to try to fix it.
In the end, I had to ship it back to them.
They took a look and figured out it was defective.
So they sent me a more expensive Defender 3000, which I've set up and it works now. Making me quite happy.

I had my full range of motion in every joint when I woke up this morning! Stretching before going to bed does wonders.
The class I was in had seven people with black belts, one person with a brown belt, and four or five other with lower belts. One of the black belts practiced with me yesterday to show me the ropes and I had neither the agility nor the physical strength to do anything to him that he didn't want me to do. The guy is old enough to be my father- and possibly my grandfather - and he could throw me around like a rag doll.
Then I practiced randori (I think?) with another black belt - a woman I outweighed by at least 40 lbs and she'd done two consecutive rounds of it with other black belts before practicing with me - and got taught a thing or two about agility (and humility).
It was great fun, can't wait until the next session on Tuesday.
I also need to find a way to get lighter on my feet, I felt old and sluggish yesterday.

Had such a funny night last night. I've only ever seen this on tv. My friend is really rather attractive and the waitress was sent over by an admirer to ask for her number. My friend is in a relationship so politely declined. We forgot to ask which man in the restaurant it was but he wasn't to be deterred and sent over his number. My friend again said no thank you and we decided to drink up and move on. Then the waitress was sent over with new drinks for the table. Eventually the admirer came over to join us and he was really rather unattractive and old. Soooo funny. Also quite creepy but the hilarity outweighed that. And I got a free drink.

Tough to beat free alcohol! Course for me free drinks rarely come at the expense of dealing with creepy old men, not sure I'd still feel it was so worth it in that case.

Try to eat after class, rather than before it. "Sloshing" is not the best thing to experience during reps of throws.
But maybe two hours before, have a light snack that will pep you up for this.
The rest is stuff that will come with time and expertise accumulated.

So my mom stayed at a hotel last week, and came home with all of this "free stuff" that she said was in a basket in her room. The contents included:
1. a bottle of fiji water
2. a bottle of san peligrino
3. a full sized bag of goldfish crackers
4. a bag of trail mix
5. a bag of pretzels
6. multiple bags if chips/crisps
7. two granola bars
8. maybe more? She keeps whipping out other items
So.... I stay in a lot of hotels, and the one she was at wasn't that great. I'm pretty sure she bought at least a hundred bucks worth of snacks, but I don't want to break it to her.

They're goldfish-shaped cheese crackers, similar to Cheez-Its.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.
