Overcame my writer's block and hammered out 13k words just this week. Finally found the momentum I'd lost after the big NaNoWriMo push last November. New story, new ideas, a mug of hot chocolate . . . Aye, life be good.

Yesterday, but my friend and I had a flying experience booked at a bird of prey centre near here, but the weather was too poor. Instead of just sending us off home, they brought the birds inside and did an ad-hoc afternoon of talks and handling for the group. They also didn't charge us and signed off our voucher things so that we can come back in the summer for the whole experience and just pay then, which was pretty awesome of them!
So, a Golden Eagle, finding me nowhere near as interesting as I found him clearly!

In less than two weeks I'm going to be in Finland on a husky safari. It's a sweltering -14 at the airport we transfer to from Helsinki, thermals have been purchased.

Finished a film course last year and have been trying to get some kind of employment in that area while remaining in Ireland (which limits me severely but need to stay for family reasons).
So after many job applications, and a few interviews for jobs i didn't even want to get, I managed to convince a production company to take me on for 6-9 months. We're sorting out the exact details in the next few days, but they rang me today to give me the thumbs up. Delighted with myself, cos they're willing to let me get involved with every step of the process, from meeting the client through to the editing, whereas most jobs i had come across were very restrictive (like 99% editing).
So hopefully, in about 6 months time, I'll have the experience of finishing a bunch of projects, which I can then put into practice for a few of my own short film and documentary ideas.
Super happy with myself. And relieved, cos I now have a job. Yay.

I was under the impression CA is a pretty arid place mostly to begin with? Most days o' sunshine annually in the country for LA, why it became the capital of cinema, yes?

Went for a job interview last week (for editing film), and when they explained what the actual job would be, I knew I didn't have the experience required to get it (and to be honest I didn't want it). But I knew one of my old classmates had done an interview that morning, had more experience than me and did want the job.
So when they asked me a question about editing, I basically told them that I was technically pretty good, but I wasn't sure if I had a real natural flair for it, like this classmate of mine, who edited one of our student films. I told them she was great, which wasn't an exaggeration.
And today, I got my rejection letter for that job, but I found out my friend got it instead. And they even mentioned to her what I had said, so it must have had some impact.
And, as i mentioned in my last post, I got a job offer since to do more camera related stuff, so it all worked out perfectly.
