Brys fingers

When Brys fought Rhulad two of Brys' fingers were chopped off. Feather Witch picked up one and a story line ensued. The second finger was picked up, I think, by the Errant. Somehow, this finger wound up in a jar of Pink goo
in Selush's magic shop. It was this second "Twitching" finger in Selush's shop.
that, I believe, overrode Feather Witch"s binding magic. ("Feather Witch's
eyes snapped open. Disbelieving. As she felt Brys Beddict being pulled away,
pulled out of her grasp. By some force.") The finger was offered to Brys by
one of the Ratcather Guild members, Brys pushed the thing away in disgust.
My question: Does anyone remember the trail of events that began when
someone picked up the second finger, and ended with said finger in pink goo
in Selush's shop? Any and all help is appreciated.

I don't think Selush's recovery of the finger is done in MT.... Either that or I can't remember.
We now turn to the more knowledgable personnel of our forums, including Abyss (who saw that coming!!!!).

It has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the most powerful force on Wu is a bunch of messed-up Malazans with Moranth munitions.

I think it is not explained how the finger comes into posession of Selush. Give me a couple of days and I will be able to answer you more specifically. At the moment I'm up to page 622 of the Bantam Edition of RG and am going to continue reading right now. And since you already waited a month or so to get your question answered, a few more days won't hurt.

So, I've read it. And the trail of events is not in the least explained. On page 852 of the Bantam edition it is mentioned for the first time but no explanation is given as to how it comes to be there. My impression was the Rat Catcher's Guild had something to do with it, but it is never fully explained, as far as I know.

Feather was going to use the finger to summon her Mortal Sword, but forget there was a second finger, and that in any case, Trana was already ghosting for Brys anyway, and got to him faster.

I was confused by this too. Their were two fingers. Feather witch knew all along that there were two because I thought she had both of them. So here is an account:
1 feather witch had one hidden up her hoohoo.
2 bruhen trana took one from around her neck and went to summon Brys with it.
3 one was in selush's shop.
Feather witch was dead by the time the finger in the shop twitched, right? So are 1 and 2 the same finger or are 1 and 3 the same finger?

Unless I'm mistaken, 1 and 2 are the same: first, Feather Witch hid it in her hoohoo, then later she took wore it around her neck until Bruthen Trana stole it.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

I thought feather witch still had one in her possession after Trana took one from her, but I probably misunderstood her reminiscing about there being two when she and the Errant are argueing.

No, the 2nd finger was not mentioned and of Midnight Tides. Feather just retrieved one. I don't recall the mention of the second in Reaper's Gale, unless it was subtle, and Erikson is infamous for that. There WERE cues as to Bugg in MT, dammit, when you reread it you can see it.

Hell I could see it on the first read. Not that he was Mael just that there was definitely something more to him. And I figured he had to be a God.

Actually after he started to know things he shouldn't have known and talk to gods I had this suspicion about him being Mael. Then (I don't know why) I thought he could be Hood and so was thorn beween Hood and Mael until the revelation.

I have also just finished RG and also wondered at the moment of reading how the second finger got where it did.
A minor loose end, easily forgivable in such a complex plot.

Maybe crazy theory, but what the hell. RG, pg 854, Salush is talking to Padderunt of the Rat Catchers Guild
It moved, Padderunt, a stubby, little severed finger in pink goo moved. Go tell Rucker.
Could be a rat brought the finger to the Guild from where it was given to Salush. Certainly didn't read anything about this happening.

Oh yes, the finger that Selush has is most certainly the same one used by Ormly at the lake, both Selush and the Rat Cathers being in cahoots with Tehol.
