Richard looks like a wimpy tool. No credible raptor gaze at all.

He's the bringer of death.
I actually picture Richard as being quite threatening looking and you can't deny that he's lethal with a sword.
I loved the scene in the second book where he arrives in the main hall of the sisters chapel, announces he's the bringer of death, cuts up his arms and declares he's at war with the sisterhood as long as they keep him collared.

Richards meant to be almost seven feet tall, and a woodsman to boot! That guy looks like an Elf!
And Dick rules with that sword ... He killed over 9000 shadow dancers!

He cut himself like an emo because he was wearing a collar?

I don't get what his problem was with that anyway. He was getting hot sex with sexy babes in leather that liked pain.

No no no, that was the first book. When the sisters collared him and took him to the citadel, he was a prisoner and only the evil demon-humpers wanted to sex him up.

Errr... If I remember it is described quite explicitly in the books, just like all the rape scenes and what not.
(No tentacles tho, so don't get your hope up!)

No, it was actually a pretty powerfull scene.
He'd been collared by the sisters of the light, a group of "missguided" magical nunnes. They'd gone to find Richard in the New World, I think it was because of a prophecy. Anyway their calling is to find wizards and school them in the ways of magic. The collar they use saves the wizards from selfdestructing. Something about not being able to control the power, Richard was close to death when they found him.
After a long trip to the Old World on the southern continent, where Richard does a lot of killing and crying, they arrive at the sisters chapel. The sisters, expecting a small child that they could control and would obey them in everything, were not expecting a grown man with the temper of a mule, let alone the Seeker of Truth.
When he enters the Main Hall the sisters get quite a shock. Every sister is assembled, looking forward to seeing the new "acquisition", planning on having a big welcome party for Richard.
Instead they get a quite pissed seeker, who's refused to bathe or cut his hair, basically looking like a wildman. Richard then pulls his sword, declaring himself the "The Bringer of Death". The Bringer of Death it has been foretold will be the one who cuts the veil between the underworld and the real world, so the sisters are quite shocked. The Richard then draws the sword across his forearms letting the blood run down the blade and declares that he and the sisterhood are now at war. So long as the keep him collared, he is a prisoner. And as a prisoner, he will fight them in all manners cept letting them teach him how to control his power.
It's a fucking great scene and I love the book for that scene alone. Richard pretty much acts like a crazy mix of Karsa Orlong and Ganoes Paran while he's at the School.

I know Apt, I read it. I was making a joke.
I don't really like the scene that much, but whatever floats your boat I suppose.

Indeed. Wizards Rule is ok, really great some places even, the second one Stone of Tears is also ok but a lot of the story is just down right bad. It has it's good points but overall mediochre. Blood of the Fold was bad. Temple of the Winds was criminal and the fifth one had an evil chicken in it so I stopped a hundred pages in.
