I have seen other threads mention there are timeline issues in this book, but i never see any specifics. Im just curious what are some of the timeline problems in this book. I went thru a few pages of the forum, and didnt see any threads that stuck out on the matter.

Timeline issues??

The Hounds are only described as being a thousand years old.
The House of Shadow hasn't been active in a thousand years, in reality it's probably much, much more but we don't know for sure.
Thats the only obvious ones I can remember of the top of my head.
It's not so much the events of the book itself. It's the vents of GotM in relation to other events in the series that are a bit dubious. Nothing to worry about while reading the first book.
Apt, the timelines is not important, the timelines is not important....

As Aptorian says most of the timeline issues jump out when you try to reconcile GotM info with later books.
To give you a taster of that, think about the age of the Malazan Empire. Kellanved's rule lasted almost 100 years - but can you think of any of prominent characters we saw in GotM that are anywhere near that age? Even Dujek is supposed to be only 78. This leads to problems later when (not a storyline spoiler)
The rule of thumb is to not pay a great deal of attention to dates and ages. In GotM SE seemed to use "a thousand years old" as shorthand for "this is as old as it gets". That was the longest timescale in that book. Then as the series goes on things stretch out and the same events are suddenly hundreds of thousands of years in the past.
It got to the point where SE stopped using dates from about BH/RG on. There's no year given at the start of chapters in those books or later ones. They're really not important though.
