Given the general standard of Macros' typing I think you should extend his deadline till 2010.
I'm imagining it's going to be like reading Fersum Enjin.

Nice idea, Shin, I am in! I have been toying with a series of short stories for my other books, mainly to flesh out character histories but this will give me a little kick to write a good one.
Victory is mine!

Yay! The more the merry - er.
I'm still staring at an empty inbox at malazanwriting@live.com though, but since we're not judging for speed I guess that's ok.
I'm just excited to see the first submission.

Come on, we're not machines. It takes time and inspiration. And time.

Well, you have lots of time, it's true.
But don't put it off to the last minute.
You have much longer than a typical school term, so I expect some to trickle in before the DECEMBER deadline.
Although it would be funny to see the judges faces when they get two dozen submissions on the same day.

I've got a few stories in the pipeline almost done. But I'm not sure if I want to submit them. I'm pretty private and have not much talent.

I've not started writing it yet, but I have most of it planned out in my head. Just a few key things missing from it.

Just as long as you have more talent than everyone else!

Is the 7500 words law to the letter?
I'm 6500 of the way through and i'm cramming some stuff in there. I know an economy of words is needed, but at the moment I'm missing out on all adjectives just to get it finished. I do not intend to break or bend the rules, but i can set out a better ending if you cut me some slack.
Which I realised you're probably not going to. WAAAH, WAAAAH, WAAAAAGGGHHHHHHH!

Hmm. Im getting the problem that my stories plot isnt really looking short, and I dont wanna sacrifice the detail.
Im thinking of just skipping the contest, or submitting something else, and seeing if I can actually get a proper novel going. I usually quit soon after I start because I lose faith in my plot, characters, or just writing ability, but so far, so good.

Tyrant Lizard, that's quite the length! Thats 30 double spaced pages. Wikipedia says the classic definition is 7500 words, but apparently anything under 20,000 is considered a short story by modern standards.
I'll tell you what, if enough people express the same problem, I could see maybe lengthening it to 10,000 (or if you promise its good, 20,000).
But to tell the truth, it would be a little harsh to disqualify someone for going over the word count so fudging is allowable. Within reason.
