I r confuzzled. Page 287 of the hardcover, last paragraph before the break.

Desra is talking about bullying people to get what she wants, she says she is going to do it to Clip. Then this paragraph:

TtH said:

She had made her discovery, after all, of one whos strength was absolute. Before whom she herself felt weak but in a most pleasant, most satisfying way - one to whom she might surrender whatever she chose without fearing he would one day us it against her. Not this one.
Not Nimander Golit.

Now, when I first read it, I thought she was saying she would use clip, and she was musing that she had found one who had absolute strength, who she would allow to give her orders. But she wasn't going to let Nimander do it. Now re-reading, it seems that maybe the person she was talking about with the absolute strength is Nimander. This would be the first time I could see that any of them muse on the good things about Nimander... and I wonder if anyone knows (not guesses, although those are fun) where Desra's conviction in Nimander's strength comes in?

Yes, she's talking about Nimander having great strength. And I think she means that she can trust Nimander not to use her weaknesses against her. I still have about 150 pages left, but it seems to me that all of that group are coming to realize that Nimander is a great leader and has hidden depths of resolve of which even he is not aware.

Nim made that decision about not confronting Clip about murdering Kedeviss...and then Desra and Skin marvel at how they accepted his word as authority without hesitation.

Your second supposition is right, you just misread it the first time. And Phaed's death was the best thing to happen to Nimander ever.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I'm not sure; could it have something to do with their time on Assail? His similarities to Andarist? His relation to Rake? Do I need to reread HoC?

I'm a little confused as to Aranatha's deal.

Ah, I've been spoilered. Serves me right for messing around in this forum.

Alas, it's beer and baseball time, and I don't want to half-read the last parts.

I find the Tiste Andii bits the most confusing.

It's alright, man. I'm sure it won't detract from my enjoyment any. In fact, that little tidbit just piques my curiosity as to how that goes down.

Right now, I'm just really hoping Harllo gets back to Stonny. That whole plotline is a heartstrings tugger for me. Poor little guy.

I really hated Nimander in Reapers Gale, but I thought he improved in TtH. But only just. I would honestly rather reread the Mhybes parts in MoI than have to listen to the "Boo hoo I have no selfesteeeeeem, waaaaa" of Nimanders inner monologue. And oh how I was annoyed when Phaed kept popping up in his mind. Seriously, couldn't he just had mentally strangled her aswell?

I was also somehow disappointed that Nimander and Clip didn't have an epic swordfight

Given the conversation between Nimander and Skintick in the Epilogue, this may still happen further down the road - and I sure as hell hope that Clip gets his arrogance stuffed down his throat. I guess it'll happen in Cam's Darujhistan-/Genabackis-centric novel, though...

Me too! but what made me fell slightly better was when Arantha and Nimander suddenly appear out of nowhere in front of clip and he actually cuts his own finger off with his own stupid chain, It wasn't as good but it will have to do.

Clip had a god inside him so he probably would have beaten Nimander and Aranatha said she couldn't stop him probably because she had her backed turned
The one with the true power could have been Skin or even Aranatha probably Aranatha given who she was
Do you think that Nimander will become the new night of Darkness as he is now the ruler of the Tiste Andii
