Now I'm not very good at picking up on clues but what I think you're all saying is that I'm missing out on possibly the greatest show ever?

There are hints of greatness in it...but there is a lot to find bad as well, and by seasons' end even I (who was always trying to find the good in the show from ep to ep) was flagging from how bad it was by the end. If S2 doesn't shape up within an ep or two, I'll be completely out.

There aren't hints of greatness. There are hints that they didn't make it this bad on purpose, and some of those involved were baseline competent at their jobs.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Yes, yes, that is exactly what we're saying. Go watch it, go watch it right now and let what remains of your brain ooz...I mean, satisfy your intellectual curiosity with this awesome show!
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

Did anyone here watch Quantico? just wondering if it's worth bothering with, or does it fall in the usual trap of network shows of trying to start with a cool but limited premise and them try and spread it out over too many episodes.

By the end I was pretty squarely in hate-watch territory.
But come on... Vagnomes.... How can you NOT?

I never mentioned what the hints of greatness were.

I was gonna go with sets, costumes, and music...but we can go with Vagnomes if you wish.

I grant you sets and music. The location and set design teams did a great job. Music was suitably epic (except for the Farmer Rave).

Costumes... the outfits for most of the main characters were nothing we didn't see back in Hercules and Xena... and c'mon... the trolls are hobos costumes with gasmasks. The demon army looked like extras from a Ninja Turtle movie. ...and also, vagnomes.

See, I freely gave them this because in Brook's post-earth world, the trolls were mutated due to the fact that they were left out of Hawk Freemark's sacrificial, magic-protected mountain valley fastness bubble, and basically had to find a way to survive a demon-infested, nuclear-soaked holocaust...the hobo gear and gasmasks being then handed down as "armour" through the generations of the troll people, seemed incredibly apt to be honest.

Haven't read the magicpocalypse books but i'll take your word for it, leaving aside trolls in the book series, because duh, I suppose it might be clever, but it's not creative.

I think I preferred it to trying to make trolls like they are in most other adaptations. You can't do Tolkien trolls, or Harry Potter trolls as you'd just be kind of copying....so you may as well put a spin on them.

But I will FREELY admit this would have had a huge bonus for MTV of literally not needing to do a special effect on the things and therefore reduce the pull on the budget (which was already strained under location shooting in New Zealand and some of the unavoidable special effect costs). So my bet is that is why this won out...but it does kind of have in-series reasons if you need them to be there.

I'm wondering why we never saw one underneath the gear. They never did a reveal on them, up to and including the last shot of the series..which would have been the most apt point to showcase one. But again, that could be budget.

In hindsight, I feel like my biggest gripe with the show are the elves. I get that Gough and Millar needed to stray from the Tolkien-format to differentiate them....but it increasingly just felt like they were humans-wif-pointy-ears as opposed to an entire race of super-long-lived creatures. Like you feel that Tolkien-elves are this alien race to humans, right down to their social hierarchy and activities...but here they just come off as pretty pedestrian with petty almost-humanlike tendencies. I never got that vibe in Brook's books....but here I surely felt it. There should be an ethereal nature to them, and there simply isn't.

I suppose it really depends on what you extract from it. I'm not set in stone though. I haven't seen it so I won't pick at it.

TRANSPARENT.I am enjoying this far far more than I expected to. Part comedy, part soap opera, part family drama. Immensely well done and really works the 30 min format.

First of all how dare you!

Second of all, yeah I gotta start watching Transparent. Haven't watched any of the Amz originals yet, actually. The Rob Delaney one is supposed to be good too.

Alpha House is genuinely great. I'm amazed it retains as much heart as it does with being a mix of satire and great characters.

The John Goodman show about republican senators? I love it. I love pretty much everything about it.
