Hans Zimmer?
The bwooom noise is a special effect noise...not score.

Apparently he created that particular sound for Inception. It has since become...horribly, horribly overused. I'd find a better article, but that one will have to do atm.

We're trademarking a sound now?
If he pioneered it for one film, I don't think we can hang copy-cat's at his door.

*shrug* It's either called that or "the Inception sound". Fact of the matter is, it's overused, it's become overused since the trailer for that movie, it's often used in the same manner, and he created it and therefore has (apparently) some limited control over who else can use it (according to linked article). It's like the DVD piracy warnings say 'attempt to transmit, in whole or in part, this film (including its soundtrack)' - that sound is for a song he created, ergo it is included (in a limited manner) within his copyright, I'd guess?
There's really no other way to refer to it - it's not an attack against him, QT. (Though, interestingly, it does seem to get used a lot in trailers related to projects he's worked on...if memory serves (which it may not).)

Everything gets overused these days.
But personally, I'm not at all sick of the Bwoom sound. I like it in fact.

To be honest, I think that Gotham show looks like a gigantic and disgraceful let-down. When I first heard about it, I was hoping for something like the comic Gotham Central - Batman-free, but exploring what it's actually like to police in his Gotham.
This is just Bat-Smallville. No-risk television. I might give it a try, if it gets good reviews, but I'm not enthused.
Teen-Penguin. I mean, really.

I don't get the SMALLVILLE comparison though. SMALLVILLE had a hokey, DAWSON'S CREEK vibe from the very get-go...since this is more about Bullock and Gordon as cops running the beat, I don't see the connection at all.
Re: The Penguin...I dunno. He had to be a teen at some point. I see no reason this couldn't work.

It's the 'young versions of everyone involved later in the story' that I'm specifically referring to. Yes, Penguin had to be a teen at some point, but I have no interest in seeing it.

Ah. Well, I guess I think seeing the etymology and deconstruction of super villains and what make them up and make them go so bad, to be interesting.
For all it's poorly done episodes, SMALLVILLE at least gave us the most sympathetic Lex Luthor...and then slowly, inexorably turned him bad. That was a pleasure to watch, over say "This guy is bad....because reasons." or a variation thereof.

It's not a disinteresting concept in itself, and Luthor is a particularly good character to have it used for, but I have no faith that here it's anything other than 'look - a name you know!'. And I still have little interest in the Penguin.
And doing it with too many characters, as this looks to me to be doing, risks tying the mythology all together far earlier than would really make sense. Sure, it's a different telling of the story than the main universe or whatever else, but it bugs me.

Totally fair points.
I wasn't interested in the show at all when I heard it was being done...but I think I'll give it a chance.

What about that godawful scream from a shot male in Star Wars. I still hear that.
That's called "the Wilhelm" and originally comes from a Western movie whose name I cannot recall. (Studios keep a library of sound effects so they don't have to keep reinventing stuff.)
It has been used in every Star Wars movie and I think every Indiana Jones movie too, plus I'm sure a whole bunch others. I always listen for it.
EDIT - I think someone has even made a montage of Wilhelm screams. you can probably find it via Google.

OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

I ain't writing it off completely, like I say- after all if I went by what it looked like in advance I'd have thought the Blacklist was going to be awful and I love that show. But it doesn't look my cup of tea and I'm just disappointed they didn't take the chance to make something more Gotham Central or summat.

I prefer the Youraagh scream to the Wilhelm personally (think Wesley being tortured in The Princess Bride). It, uh, sounds more painful.
Anyway, Silencer is right. The Inception sound has got to go.

Hans zimme bwaaaaaaagghh. Was massively over used in winter soldier too. But its effective at building tension, its got to a stage you know that sound signifies impending drama/ fighty time and so you get ready for it.
mrh, doesn't bother me, but the trailer looked good, but looks like they're cramming too many into the first season, go fir penguin and one other possibly, not the whole cast of villans.

I was just reading about Muppet Babies and how previously the lack of DVDs was thought to come down to licensing issues (you know, like when they'd open a closet and see something from a movie). But since Disney owns The Muppets now, that's kind of clearly not so much the reason. It's just cuz they don't feel like doing it.
