For cartoon comedies I'd seriously recommened Archer, and on the drama scale I'd say check out Justified, which can be quite funny at times as well.

Justified is back!

Awesome, thanks for all of the recommendations. I don't particularly have any preferences beyond good acting/believable characters/good writing. The only thing I really don't care for at all are "reality" shows. I'm generally not a big fan of melodrama (except where it works in pure comedy).

Breaking Bad is sucking up way too much of my time. Already almost done with season 3, and I'll probably be done with season 4 by Thursday.

Hmm. I'm digging through older hard drives getting rid of dupes.
Life w/ Damien Lewis is a very quirky cop show. It was cancelled after 2 seasons, but they had enough warning that they were able to make a season finale that worked well as a series finale. Sarah Shahi in purple droomers. Gawd she is hot.

Sports Night was quite good.

I have way too many shows on my to-be-watched list. Finished up with Breaking Bad recently, I think I might start Battlestar Galactica next.

Just watched the first 3 episodes of 'Ripper Street'.

I was expecting it to be bad in a kind of BBC drama sort of way, but it's actually been pretty good so far.

Good sets and storylies, even if they do seem to be overdoing the 'forensics' for the era.

And it's got Bronn in it.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Watched one episode of BLACK MIRROR...

holy hell...that was fucking bleak!

Read the synopses of the 2nd and 3rd eps of S1...NOT FOR ME...

Really well done, but not the type of thing I call entertainment.

They ought to call the show "Look How Fucked Up Society Is"...but then I suppose that's what they set out to show.

We've been DVRing the modern-NYC Sherlock Holmes series ELEMENTARY. Have now watched the first 5 eps.

It isn't horrible. Mainly because other than the characters' names and the occasional nod, this has nothing to do with Conan Doyle's work at all. Plus, they're not playing it entirely straight, which helps too.

Still, makes me long for the Jeremy Brett series.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

I watched a few eps to see the fuss....but it only makes me want to watch the proper BBC SHERLOCK...which is written SCADS better. (though, you're right it's not REALLY attempting to be Sherlock show, just thieving characters and ideas and wangling them) ...but then you end up with...

... it has more in common with CSI or CRIMINAL MINDS than it does anything more clever...just with a sherlockian type lead...

It's like CSI: Sherlock Lite...and that is about as watered down as it gets. If it goes past one season I'll be surprised.

I'm needing some more sci-fi in my life. Do any of you know of any interestings shows I should try and watch?

Y'know, besides the various "Star....." shows, battlestar galactica, Farscape, Lexx, Firefly...
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

Hmmm....there's not a lot out there right now...

If you're cool with Supernatural, then there is always SyFy's BEING HUMAN remake which is amazing...

but as for proper sci-fi...there hasn't been much recently, or even less than recently...

There's murmurs of a new Star Trek show, but I've not heard any movement on it.

A friend and I watch the new Supernatural every friday, so that's cool.

But as for proper Sci-Fi. There's just so little I haven't already watched. Some shows turn out good but then becomes a right mess later on. And some shows are just utter garbage (Starhunter being a great example of this)

I'll check out Being Human

Tried Babylon 5 yet? You gotta push through the front half of Season 1. Seasons 2-4 are gold. Season 5 ain't great, but it ain't horrible either.

Yep I've also been enjoying Ripper Street for all the reasons you say. It's classic BBC Sunday night, post Antiques Roadshow fayre. Jerome Flynn has become surprisingly good in everything I see him in, which considering his association with Robson Green, Unchained Melody etc is a revelation.

I am about to watch the second part of Utopia which I recorded last night. I hope it doesn't disappear up its own arse after a very promising first episode. Dancing on the edge of magic realism and mirroring the graphic novel at the centre of the plot, it looked great and was slightly unnerving to watch. That torture scene was uncomfortable to say the least whilst the 2 thugs were scarily surreal , particularly after the first scene in the comic book store. :)

Anybody else watching it and is it worth sticking with ?
Now all the friends that you knew in school they used to be so cool, now they just bore you.
Just look at em' now, already pullin' the plow. So quick to take to grain, like some old mule.

I've got the first two ready to watch, but haven't gotten to see them yet. I'll let you know what I think once I watch.

Quantum Leap and Sliders are always good, and are often rerun on various cable channels (ION, G4, The Hub). If you like cheese with a side of fan service, check out Cleopatra 2525, starring a pre-Firefly Gina Torres.

I'm currently enjoying Continuum, which started on Syfy recently. I believe it's been mentioned in this thread before, but it's apparently new to U.S. television. Also looking forward to Defiance, which premieres in April.

When a group of fanatical terrorists escape their planned execution in 2077 by traveling back in time to 2012, they inadvertently take City Protective Services officer Kiera Cameron with them. Trapped in a more "primitive" past, Kiera infiltrates the local police department to try to track down the terrorists before they change the course of history.

Continuum stars Rachel Nichols (Alias, Criminal Minds, G.I. Joe) as Kiera, Victor Webster (Castle, Melrose Place) as detective Carlos Fonnegra - who Kiera allies with - and Erik Knudsen (Jericho, Scream 4) as Alec Sadler, the teenaged tech genius who could be Kiera's key to saving the future.

Continuum comes from executive producers Simon Barry (The Art of War), Jeff King (Stargate SG-1, White Collar), Tom Rowe (Tin Man), and Pat Williams (Smallville).

Coming soon to Syfy, Defiance is the innovative serial drama from the minds behind Battlestar Galactica and Farscape. Drifting through a terramorphed American landscape, the mysterious Nolan settles in a border town where aliens and humans fight against the fragility of peace. Tune in weekly as the citizens of Defiance thrive in this hostile world, and see how their struggles impact your war in the high-octane multi-platform MMO shooter from Trion Worlds!

Tried to watch Battlestar Galactica. Looked like it had potential, but the word "frak" bothered me so much that I had to stop watching.

Second episode of Utopia was excellent with enough going on to keep me interested. It's quirky and humorous with enough expose to keep you guessing about motives. There is also some quite graphic violence and in this episode another torture scene, although not as bad as last week.

Also Neil Maskell's character of Arby is fantastic. "Where is Jessica Hyde ?" I saw him recently in an independant flick called Kill List where he also plays the everyman stone cold killer to perfection. His role in Utopia could almost (scarily) be a follow on from this role.

Anyway I'd recommend giving it a shot if you can. Nerds, internet forums, Graphic novels, conspiracy, psycho hitmen and a sense of impending doom..., what's not to like ?

This is also a bit of a laugh with some great links at the end if you can be arsed to fill out the questionaire about how long it would take for "Them" to find you.

Wow, just watched the first two eps of UTOPIA. Wow. Consider me highly impressed. What a great show, compellingly written, acted and directed...and goddamn but the cinematography (for a contemporary TV show, it's nothing short of film caliber) is some of the finest I've seen on TV barnone.

Just wow.

Spoiler

Seriously though, this is the best show I've discovered since LUTHER.

Amazing stuff! Can't wait for next Tuesday!

Oh and is it wrong to have a bizarre crush on Jessica Hyde? (Fiona O'Shaughnessy...YUM!)
