Agree, Ted is totally a douche.

I never made it past the first season...for the reasons already mentioned. I'm happy to hear that I don't need to have any regrets about that.

There are three episodes that are extremely good - Swarley, Atlantic City and Slap Bet. I'd put those up against some of the best episodes any ensemble comedy has done in the last 15 years. I think they all happened in a row too in the second season.

A few others are good too (Mary the Paralegal, Aldrin Justice, Arrivederci Fiero, Dowisetrepla, The Bracket and The Naked Man) but in 4 seasons, that's it for me.

There's quite a bunch of laughs throughout - especially at Marshall and Lily's wedding, but to have a full episode of amazing writing is rare. Still a decent show and one that really does like overly elaborate gestures and rescues of each other from douchey situations. Which means Ted gets rescued an awful lot by cutesy shit.

I haven't seen all of season two of Grimm yet so I'm posting my question here since 1) I don't want to read spoilers and 2) my question doesn't give anything away.

Can anyone tell me how the quote at the beginning of the episode 'Bottled Imp' applies to the story? I can't make a connection.

I've always found the quotes to be sort of detached from the episodes they preface. It seems they're always stretching the meaning to make it fit the episode.

It's the only one I can't make a connection between the original story and the episode or at least a vague connection between the content of the quote and the episode but this one makes no sense whatsoever.

I'm wrapping up the first season of American Horror Story. Very good show. I'm not typically into the horror genre, but this is suspensful and well written. It's literally been giving me nightmares, which if funny because it's not actually scary. The fucking dreams it has been inspiring for some reason are though. Awesome.

It's a complete stretch, but the quote is from a 'spirit in a bottle' fairytale and relates to seemingly innocent things turning out to be dangerous.

Some solid holiday viewing...

DEXTER S7 - satisfying conclusion to the series. It was a bit of a stretch that at points felt like they were playing for time, but overall a suitably dark and ambiguous conclusion to a great show.

HUNTED S1 - the show has potential in that the subject matter, ex-spies and special forces working in hard-core corporate espionage, has a lot of potential, but the slow plot and at times repetitious character arcs held it back. It needed more tension and guns and fights and less angst.

BREAKING BAD S4 - Oh fucking fuck that was brilliant and i can't wait for S5 (yes i know, but haven't seen the first half yet).

SONS OF ANARCHY - S1 and 2 - doublefucking holyfuck, this show is my new favoritestiest thing ever on television.

I assume you meant season (and not series) finale. Next season will actually be the show's last and it will continue with the storyline from season 7.
And so the First denied their Mother,
in their fury, and so were cast out,
doomed children of Mother Dark.

I actually felt the opposite really, and was really not all that enamoured with this season. It almost felt to me like they didn't have enough time, and so

Just borrowed my parent's Netflix information to start watching some shows I've really wanted to see. Spent all last night watching the first season of Breaking Bad, which has been really enjoyable. Once I finish up the next three seasons, I think I'm going to check out The Walking Dead.

Any recommendations?

Having no clue what you've already seen or what your tastes are, I'll jump in:

For TV dramas, I'd recommend Friday Night Lights. It's awesome from the start, Season 2 is the weakest but also the shortest and after that it gets awesome again. They also just added The West Wing , which also has one relatively bum season (5) but gets good again after that. Freaks & Geeks is up there too, A+++ stuff from start to unfortunately soon finish.

Parks & Recreation is the best sitcom (and, strangely enough, has kind of a bum season in the first six episodes and then is basically the best thing ever after that, up to and including its current season). Louie, of course, has no bum seasons or even bum episodes, so that's a top rec.

For cartoon comedies I'd recommend Home Movies and Bob's Burgers, and for dramas I'd go with Avatar: The Last Air Bender.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

For cartoon comedies I'd seriously recommened Archer, and on the drama scale I'd say check out Justified, which can be quite funny at times as well.

Awesome, thanks for all of the recommendations. I don't particularly have any preferences beyond good acting/believable characters/good writing. The only thing I really don't care for at all are "reality" shows. I'm generally not a big fan of melodrama (except where it works in pure comedy).

Breaking Bad is sucking up way too much of my time. Already almost done with season 3, and I'll probably be done with season 4 by Thursday.
