Wait until the end :(

Seasons 2 and 4 are a bit odd in that the seasons start off with the characters all over the place and it takes a while for all the story threads to come together. When they do come together, awesomeness results. Seasons 1, 3 and 5 are somewhat more coherent from start to finish as well. Both approaches seem to work, with S4 generally regarded as the best (although I think I favour S3 just a bit more) based on my unscientific anecdotal evidence.

Im on series 5 now, I've been blown away by the quality of this programme. Some of the stuff I didnt see happening at all, and I like the fact they infude alot of new characters while keeping the same core throughout.

So, there's this great series. takes place in some of the most popular places in the states. it's flashy, it's entertaining, and you can even forgive all the bullshit they put forward and get to the end of the episode without feeling cheated. they even made 3 seperate series of those.

then there's that another one, a sort of spinoff from JAG, following the people of a CI unit for the navy, and it's even better. it throws the previous one's flashy shit out of the window and gets down to the ground, putting more energy into the plot and characters. awesome stuff.

then there's this pearl, this gem of TV production, and another proof that HBO kicks nbc and fox ass. you've got a gritty setting, story arcs that last an entire season, zillions of characters, and believable language, behaviour and methods. it touches the street level, in the office, the bosses, the political cream. it puts the story in perspective, showing it from various viewpoints - police detectives, chiefs, polititians, drug kingpins, regular dockworkers, corner kids, ex-inmates... this show reveals the proper methods, the bog of internal struggles within the city and within crime organisations. it shows big players, and the little guys that get caught between their machinations, trying to avoid being crushed. it's a crime show that goes beyond being merely a crime show and goes on depict the functioning of an entire city.

personally I like the last show the most, and by far. I'll assume at least most of you will have no problem naming the 3 shows in your heads, so... what's your oppinion? which do you prefer?

one of the things that strikes me is that Omar is based on people who actually did what he does. THEY ROBBED GOD DAMNED DRUG DEALERS. and they live to tell the tale to this day. how badass can you get?
also, how does a city go this bad? there's other places you'd expect to be really bad, like New York, Philly, Boston, Chicago, Detroit... but they kind of pale in comparison to lil' Baltimore on violent crimes. it's like the Hull of the USA!

Have you seen all five seasons? I ask because there's a couple things about Omar that you have to see on-screen first, before I can tell you some of the actual legends behind them.

Baltimore's bad, for sure. Do not leave the Inner Harbor area unless you know where you're going. However, Detroit is further along the "decaying city" scale and Miami has more crime on average.

One of the best series around I'd say currently watching the fourth season.

I couldn't stop watching this show once I started. Awesome. Especially season 1.

Snoop was born to two crack fiends and managed to survive. She was convicted of murdering a girl, got out and ran into the actor who plays Omar. He got her onto the show and the rest you know.

ok so I'm finished with it now and...

BLOODY HELL, watching this series was one of the worst mistakes of my life. now I won't be able to watch any other one without it feeling like watching cartoons! DAMN!

it'll have to be one hell of a show, of any kind, to ever beat this baby. I can with all honesty say, this is the best show ever made. ever. peroid.

According to his agent, Aiden Gillen - Tommy Carcetti in The Wire - is apparently in discussions to play Littlefinger in Game of Thrones if it goes to series.

That would be a brilliant piece of casting.

No. It's definitely Shakespearean, but The Wire is better on almost every level imaginable.

I think the creators of the show really screwed up by accepting the arbitrary 10 episode limit imposed by HBO. The beauty of The Wire was that the plotlines had room to develop and breathe. The truncated season meant that the kids from Season 4 had to be given short shrift - which was a travesty - and the newspaper arc was shoddily handled.

I've been on a Wire binge recently. Almost through the second season now. Damn this show is good. Why did I never watch this before? It's like watching a small movie every episode. All those story arcs weaving in and out between each other. I love the characters too. I think Bunk is my favorite so far. He's like a big fuzzy cigar smoking teddy bear that can't hold his drink. Omah is awesome as well. I've taken to whistling his little tune now and again.
