Another great Rush moment, on Obama's speech in Berlin. Apparently Rush missed the bit where Obama said he was a "proud American citizen". And it's amazing that Rush came up with so much crap to spew about such a small, innocuous speech. So, Obama admitted to the world that the US has made mistakes. It's about damn time someone did...

The ending tax breaks thing could have the same effect as the windfall taxes they have on oil/gas companies over here. Essentially it acts as a punishment for companies who, whilst increasing prices which hurts consumers, also make record profits. This will make them see that their behaviour is unnaceptable, and they have to be less greedy if they want their profits to remain intact and in their own hands. Thats the theory anyway.:D

Ideally I'd just like to see utilities nationalised, but that's a pipe-dream for me, and as the Chinese atm are proving, also a bit of a potential nightmare (subsidised utilities pushes up demand, which means either increasing the cost of utilities or the amount of money going to subsidise them).

The problem with that is, the market is in large way responsible for the price of oil going up. I'd be happier with some sort of rules in place in regards to oil speculation.

Rush Limbaugh is a mouth breathing, fat piece of shit.

Nothing he says should be taken as anything more than hate mongering.

Agreed. I don't see how even conservatives can take him seriously.

Simple:

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

I still like him better than ORILY. Probably because Rush is at least clever with his hate-mongering. ORILY is not only a jackass, but a dumbass as well...

There is more obvious hate here in this statement than what I've heard Rush say when I've listened to him. Particularily since this hate is based on 2nd-hand sources since you've admitted you haven't actually listened to him. Isn't blind hatred of someone who holds different opinions than you a little ridiculous?

As would I. The problem is that politicians of all stripes are looking for sources of revenue, but being politicians they won't tell their constituents:
1) these deficits are not sustainable; and
2) you will either pay for the services you elect us to provide or they'll have to be cut back.

I don't expect either party to do that actually; I expect it will take a severe downturn in the economy, which almost seems inevitable at this point. In the meantime, it makes political sense for BO to propose a windfall profits tax even though the likelihood of Congress passing it is rather slim.
Shaken, not stirred.

You're seriously going to defend Rush Limbaugh? You sure you want to ride that horse?

Look, Xander can hate whoever he wants to. But without having listened to him, it's kind of like a 2 year old who decides they don't like pears without having tried them.

The only radio host I will say I hate (who gets my blood boiling) is Mike Malloy, but I HAVE listened to him on numerous occasions, so I have a first hand basis for my opinion. I actually still listen to him, just to see how he'll make me mad this time. :D

I even yell at Rush when I'm in the car listening to his ridiculous views on the environment (people in cars next to me must think I'm nuts). But there ARE some things that he says that I agree with, just not environmental issues and some other things. And like I said before, I haven't found myself listening to anything he says that has me thinking "this guy's a hater."

You don't have to listen to Rush to know that he's a hate-monger - there are clips of transcripts that show up often in the liberal media. And I haven't really seen any examples of these things being taken out of context, either - it's usually not necessary to take things out of context to show that he's a hate-monger. He's clever enough to be subtle about it most of the time, but that doesn't change the fact.

I'm sorry, but the contents of the second Rush transcript don't spell out "hate monger" to me. If you feel that they do, I would be happy to read your explanation.

And I think it would be an unfair extrapolation to say that "Rush hates the people of New Orleans" or by extension "Rush hates black people" from your first transcript excerpt.

Again, I don't agree with everything Rush has to say in both of these transcripts, but hate still seems a little strong.

The following are what I'd call true examples of hate and spite on the radio:
http://en.wikiquote....iki/Mike_Malloy

Or look up his youtube clips.

Limbaugh - Let's start out with this gem, clearly not an example of hateful speech. [/sarcasm]
"Feminism was established to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream."

Hmmm. How do you want to spin this one?

I mean, the amount of nasty crap this guy has spewed is ridiculous. There's no way to defend him.

RLY, remember, Rush fancies himself as an anti-politically correct comedian of sorts. Not a terribly good one, but that quote is a perfect example of the sort of Rush comment that people take too seriously. His whole point is he enjoys pointing out how "liberals" always have to be so sensitive about everything a person says. Everyone is so ready to be "offended" by something these days.

Now you may call this "spin" on my part, but you have to admit that Rush most definately enjoys being controversial.

No, what Rush enjoys is his seeming ability to say whatever he wants and to somehow get away with it because people actually believe he isn't serious. He might dress things up a little, he might hide his meaning in between the lines, but most people would find that statement bigotted at face value. Not a pathetic attempt by a cruel, unattractive, and ultimately hard-hearted cynical asshole to be funny.

They were fascinated with Clinton's penis, and they never got a chance to see it, which is all they wanted. They wanted Clinton to have to disrobe in a court of law during the deposition that he had to give for the Paula Jones case. They didn't get a chance to see his penis. All Republican men are hooked on Viagra. ... Levitra, Cialis. These are what Republican men need in order to get an erection. And it's because they never got a chance to see Clinton's penis. Now they have transferred that to Hillary [Clinton]'s vagina. They are desperate to see Hillary's vagina. They must...they are fascinated with Hillary as a bitch goddess of some sort, and they want to worship at the vagina. They are sick, sick people... What would happen if Hillary died tomorrow? They would construct a Hillary Clinton vagina at which they would worship. Now, they hate the vagina as well as worshiping at it... They are sick. I've never seen a group of people more sick, in this country, than Republican men. They are sick beyond belief. But they are hung up on genitalia. First it was Clinton's penis, now it's Hillary's vagina. This is where they will always remain.

Pardon me, while I lmao...
