@ Abyss: Actualy now no one is fighting for the Throne of Shadow. It is securely in ST's grasp(or under his butt-as you prefer) since the events in tBH

By the way...

Shadowthrone, in the sense of a Throne that grants control of Meanas, that Kellanved/ST and Dancer/Cotilion control;

and,

the Throne of Shadow, in the sense of the Throne everyone's fighting about on Drift Avalii that in theory can repair Kurald Emulahn,

are two separate Thrones.

- Abyss, sits on the throne almost daily.

I was under the impression that Ammanas had just sat on the Throne of Shadow very stealthily and so no one realized that he had actually validated his claim until the end of tBH when he began to actively defend it. Granted there is a big chair in Shadow-keep, but I thought that was just sort of symbolic.

Damn Shadow and it's being in multiple places at once with layering and stuff...

I tend to think that the big chair in Shadowkeep is just symbolic, but one way or the other, control of Meanas does NOT = sitting on the Throne of Shadow hidden on Drift Avalii that ST made the Edur think was destroyed in TB.

- Abyss, could say ST has a clone throne...

Maybe the throne in Shadowkeep is the shadow of the real Throne of Shadow ;)

In retrospect, it doesn't seem like any of the Paths really have thrones like the Holds did, so the throne in Shadowkeep is probably just a chair to take a load off ST's insubstantial feet

Huh, well, i wasn't expecting anyone to exactrly raise the Spanish Inquisition about it, but then... ;)

but i agree that the throne itself may be purely figurative. That's been suggested about the Beast Throne(s) more than once - after all, it's pretty silly that a wolf would need a chair.

- Abyss, notes however that a fish DOES need a bicycle...

... and monkeys need acordians

about the paths not possessing thrones: it makes sense, the paths arent realms, or worlds that can be ruled, they are the flavours of k'ruls blood. the high houses are the ones that have thrones. light, dark, shadow, life, death, war and chains, each with a ruler.
There's a fine line between genius and insanity. I have erased this line.

...or at least we think so...

Consider the actual, physical 'Thrones' we know of...

The First Throne, which is somehow part of the Tellan Ritual;

The Throne of (Elder) Shadow, which appears to be linked to the fractured KE;

Shadowthrone - if it exists at all, probably a 'shadow' of the elder version

The Beast Thrones - the very fact there are two of these convenient to there being two Wolf Gods (not even repeating the silliness of a wolf needing a chair) suggests this is more figurative than anything else.

Arguably Kallor's throne he's been carrying around with him for a few thousand millenia may now serve some function in the House of Chains.

So, as far as 'real' thrones go, we have one that is linked to a massive race-wide ritual, and one linked to a broken warren, with a shadow in one of its chunks.

We've seen a bit of Hood and never seen ref to a 'Throne of Death', nor has there been any hint of a 'Throne of Darkness' or Light or Life for that matter.

All of which is to say, my theory is that 'real' Thrones are functional, not
figurative. Whomever planted their butt on the First Throne sent the Imass on a killing spree in Aren, and i suspect most of the Pantheon would be reluctant to allow the possibility of anyone having that sort of power over their own aspect.

In HoC it's mentioned that the Wolf Gods may demand loyalty from soletaken - i figure this has more to do with them (re)claiming control of the Beast Hold and turning it into the House of War than any function of any doggie seats.

- Abyss, notes they would just fall off while trying to lick themselves anyways...

Was Poliel sitting on an actual aspected Throne when Paran opened up the whoopass on her, or was that just a seat in one of her temples?

There didn't seem to be any talk of any importance applying to Poliel's chair, so I'd hazard to say it was just a chair.

Don't forget the Ice Throne!
