Assuming you were a mostly unsignificant character in the Malazan world with similar personal characteristics to yourself IRL, what religion would you adhere to?

If you are of the opinion that you would worship a mix of religions, then pretend that you decided to become an acolyte/priest/arch-priest of a particular temple/deity. Then what would you choose?

Note: Some religious deities were not included due to a limit of option numbers. I suppose I should have put an 'other' option, but I feared everyone would say 'other' and think they can worship Darkness, which is not a religious possibility we've seen - just because you can sorceror it and it has gods doesn't mean you can be a priest of it.

Edited May 09 to add all the things I wanted to write when my router decided to assrape itself.

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

Temple of Shadows.
Because it has Cotillion.
Otherwise Darkness, which isn't an option anyway....

I don't like the word "religion" used about gods in the malazan world. There's really no organized religion at least not on the continents the Malazan Empire cover. There's tons of cults all with different ideas of how to worship their god. Some use blood, some use sacrifice, some use cash! and some don't even care.

I said this in another thread... can't remember which, but the malazan pantheon is like the roman. There's dozens of deity's and patrons. If I lived in their society, I'd go to the temple of hood when some one died, I'd go to the temple of poliel/soliel if I needed healing, wanted to pray for the sick or... curse someone? I'd go to d'rek or gedderone if I was a farmer, oponn if I was a merchant or a soldier, Fener if I was a soldier or my wife/son/daughter/parents were in a war, etc.

I don't think anyone actually worships shadow, light and darkness. what would be the point? There's probably made some public sacrifices to the cult every year on special holidays.

Note: I did not include Mowri, Beru, Burn, Treach or Hood, mostly because we haven't seen their worshipiness so far and I figured I'd stick to what we can substantiate from the books.

We've seen or heard about their worship as much as any of the above.

EDIT: Again, another poll that annoys me because "Others" wasn't added as an option. I won't vote because I'd never stick to just one.

I'm not certain, but I think he means become an acolyte of.
Otherwise, as you pointed out Apt, there wouldn't be any point in choosing.

Darkness would be the priesthood of Rashan--the one that Bidithal was involved in...

I'm gonna say "the Wolves". Just because they're supposedly the oldest of the bunch (with a possible exception of D'rek, but

I chose the Shadow cult because probably after Hoods and the QoD's it's the one with the most powerful god/s.
Strangely I was for a long time indecided if to vote for the Wolwes, don't as me why because I don't know.

I'd love to be able to heal people with magic. I could grow long hair, a bushy beard, walk around in robes and heal random people. Soon enough, people would start to worship me for my kindness and generosity, and I would become more and more powerful. Until finally the political powers would see me as too much of a threat and have me killed (as a martyr), and I would become a legend. People would praise my name for thousands of years...

...so yeah. I picked Soleil.

Actually Soliel is(to paraphrase QB words) an indifferent b$$ch. So if you wanted to heal someone you should become a Priest of D'reck

She may be indifferent. But I wouldn't have to be.
And if I could tap into her powers, I could use it to heal people.

You don't need to be a Priest to heal, you know? You just need to be a Denul user.

I chose Shadow cause i dont know why but it would have been an honour to help Kel and Dancer to ascend like the Shadow cultists did in NoK.
They were all insignificant players but they helped make 2 of the best gods (not power wise but just really interesting ones)
And also most of them were assassins and some could wield Meanas and Rashan and maybe even Thyr and Mockra as they are born of Elder Shadow
