Just reread that, waiting for my ROTCG-copy (early -08, was it?).

At that moment they heard, distinctly, the sound of horses. Coming fast up the track.
"Let us set forth and commence our sweet vengeance, shall we?"
"Superior notion indeed. One of my eyes still works, which should suffice". The two Kenryll'ah demon princes set out for the cart path.
It really was not their day.
...
The detonations were a drumbeat of thunderous concussions that shook the earth beneath them.
"Four!" Fiddler said with a savage grin. Bottle saw Cuttle staring at the sergeant with undisguised awe and more than a little worship.
...
Damned sappers. Bottle shook his head. There was pain there, now, in that mangled stretch of track a quarter-league away. Human, beast, and ... oh, and demon.

I hope it wasn't just some measly scouting force....

And those lousy Letherii better not try and steal OUR munitons in DoD. ;)

@Dancer

Those are some good titles, well done! Though Witness Part II sounds kinda iffy...

I have no problem with this - like any tech advance, the state that gets it first is going to take advantage of it. The Malazan marines were outnumbered. The cussers gave them back an edge, but they were also better trained, more effective and (i love this part) the Edur freaked when facing black-skinned humans.

Where exactly was this pointed out?

When the POV went to the untested marines, to Sgt. Badan Gruk's squad. His skin was "black as a Tiste Andii's", so that's why the Edur were so scared. Awesome!

Speaking of cussers, I wonder if ascended-bridgeburner-resurrected-Hedge has an unlimited supply of them like he alluded to in the Tellan Warren? Or did that particular "power" dissapear when he came back through the gate?
It would be a bit unfair, IMO, if Fid and Hedge were walking around with a bottomless sack of Deus Ex Machina.

"Fiddler reloaded as the Crippled God made one last attempt to crawl out of the crater, but he was not as fast as Hedge, who sent a cusser to meet the God's kisser..."

The main thing that annoyed me about the overuse of Moranth Munitions is that we still haven't really had a chance to see malazan soldiers doing their thing. They've only had munitions since near the start of the Genabackis campaign, which is - what, ten years or so? But the Malazan Empire was a premiere fighting force for decades before that. They conquered all of Quon Tali and 7 Cities without munitions. Guys like Fiddler, Cuttle and Hedge have spent more time fighting without munitions than with them. I want to see the Malazans going old school on someone. Show us why they got so powerful in the first place.

The problem is that those battles you talk off, took place in big open battlefields. Where brilliant tacticians like Dassem Ultor or Tavore could fully utilise their expertice. The armies haven't been in a situation were they were faced with such a battle as of yet in the series.

It's all skirmishes and urban warfare.
