How strong were the Perish at the end of this book? How many Thrones of War survived? I had the impression that they were broken as a fighting force (were their ships burnt along with the Malazans?), but I can't doublecheck at the moment.

I'm at school so I don't have any books to make sure or quote, but I was pretty sure only the boats that the marines were on were burned. So I'd say no, the parish had many surviving vessels.

Then again I could be wrong.

The Perish and all their ships, except the ones used to transport the bonehunters, went around the continent to start an attack (or something) on the eastern front.

Seeing as there were about four times as many Perish as Malazan soldiers in BH, I'm sure a large part of the fleet survives. Maybe Emperor Beddict will even lend them supllemental ships from the Letherii navy in a suitable outrageous move for a nation obsessed with cash.

they are said to be with the Perish or doing a similar thing, attacking from a different direction than the 14th.

The Khundryl worry me.... they've come so far, will they be much help anymore? What with the perish retaining superior numbers and shps, the Khundryl may be shunted sideways into a cavalry regiment and not take part in anything else.

It will be EXTREMELY interesting to see Malazans and Letherii work together as an army. Teach 'em how to kick some ass, Bonehunters. :D

As a point, how many are left in the 14th?

wild guess here, but im thinkin around 15k

also, it might be that the khundryl or the perish or both are responsible for whipping up the bolkando and their allies in the east.

15 thousand?

I didn't think there was ten thousand malazan soldiers left even before Y'ghatan. How many died at Y'ghatan again? 1/3? Are you counting the auxilary forces of the Wickans and 7C natives?

Then of course there's those, what? 30-40? thousand perish. I'm looking forward to seeing what these people can do. If they're anything like the Gray Swords, they're DEADLY.

Got that right Apt. They lost four, five ships in the sea battle with the Edur, but the Edur lost TWENTY! A terrific ratio! I can't wait to see them actually unleashed, with big sorcery, explosions and huge armies. That sorta thing.

I made enquiries as to the 14th's numbers.

There was a reference in RG about Lostara managing 8000 soldiers. i thought there were more left, but I guess not. Add that to the Khundryl (Can't be 3000 anymore, maybe 2700) and the Perish (40,000 and 15 Thrones of War), that's a fair army. Added to this any Letherii forces that might join them.

So that's sloghtly over 50,000 soldiers. W00t.

There would be more but the Wickans are gone, unfortunately.

And as for possible High Mages:

Beak: Dead
Bottle: Soon enough, methinks
Sinn: Has to be controlled first

I remember one more, but I can't recall....

well there's the original number of soldiers they had starting out in Aren. Excluding losses from natural causes and the like...

{Aren Numbers}
-troops fighting Leoman
+troops from reinforcements before Y'Ghatan
-~2000 troops at Y'Ghatan
+troops at Lotka (where they rejoined the fleet)
+Perish
-very few troops at Malaz City
-troops at Theft
-troops in the Lether campaign

so who knows what we're really at now. Plus, for example, 2000 died at Y'ghatan, but hundreds more were gravel wounded and might've been left somewhere if possible.
