One of the things I love so much regarding SE writings is he tucks away a juicy little revelation about a character / story line, while telling us about something else!
Did any one notice that Twilight has a number of sisters????
Suggests to me that this may have repercussions on the whole "Shake" possible story arch to come.....

Snake? What snake? Do you mean Shake?
I hated the shake storyline, it was so pointless. Besides dropping hints on the KCCM and Andii past, it had no value. It's like the pointless Redmask/Awl story.

Well the "SHAKE" / AWL storylines may not be pointless in DoD...

Interesting.
I saw the Shake thing as building on the Tiste/KC storyline. It wasn't pointless, because it denied the Letherii one of their best commanders, showed us Tavore negotiating and Sinn wrecking Jaghut rituals and a few other thigns besides.
SE makes a great effort to show us that the story we're reading is ALWAYS a part of a much bigger more complicated puzzle going in all directions and worlds for a few hundred thousand years or so. The Shake and Awl storylines are part of this.
So that Twilight has sister(s) in and of itself may not be that important... until/unless one of them shows up somewhere important - and we would know that character has Tiste blood and possibly a KC connection too.
- Abyss, can shake it like he means it...

What would nimander want to do with the Shake? Remember he's gone now, probably far far away from the Lether continent, and will most likely appear in Black Coral next.

I actually remember there was something about the Andii feeling a connection to the Shake.
But Clip showed up at the end of the book, it may have been the epilogue, he used the portal and took most? of them with him to meet Rake or something like that.

Yeah, Deadsmell said they the Shake had Andii blood and their names came from the Andii tongue. and Nimander stayed, b/c he couldn't be on Silanda anymore, and supposedly he could "teach" the Shake something.. or was it "learn from them?" Anyways, in the epilogue of RG, Clip shwed up, proclaimed himself Herald of MD, which resonated with some past vision of Nimander's and said that he was gonna take them to Rake.... ad then though something like "You will soon know what it feels like to be betrayed"..

Deadsmell talking about the Shake comes from when Tavore, Twilight, Shurq, Brullyg and a handful of others are having a bit meeting in Brullyg's palace. The general gist of Deadsmell's sleep->sit up->say something amazing->fall asleep randomness is that the Shake are descended from the Watchers of the Shore - an Andii regiment/group who's task it was to stand watch over the western shoreline of Lether and kill the un-claimed (by a Matron) baby KCCM who came out of the water. The titles are all degradations of the old words for the old positions and titles. We can probably assume that these Andii were mostly wiped out in the Betrayal by the Edur, or likely soon thereafter if they didn't participate.
Oh and deadsmell got most of this info by talking to the Andii heads on the Silanda

Yep. he also suggested there was more Tiste blood than just Andii involved.
And the clawed feet thing makes me wonder whether FA or KC don't come into play somehow.
- Abyss, .....also, ew.....

because instead of going from Kurald Thyrllan into the Malaziworld like the Edur and Andii did, they (or Osserc or someone else) made a new, hard to access world for them to live and party in away from everyone else, Kurald Liosan.

So why do we have all these settlements with Edur and Andii mixed bloods and we have seen no Liosan at all?
I like the Liosans the most and they only made a brief appearance in HoC. I want more of them!

the short answer would be "beacuse they're self-righteous narcissists who see all other races to be below tthem"

Bang on! Also, they've been isolated for so long, that narcissism has reached astounding proportions - they haven't received a good walloping in a very logn time.
We know that the Liosan were involved in the "Just Wars" with the Forkrul Assail on the continent of Lether. We also know that Osserc went missing and left them in a lurch. L'oric went looking for him leaving a familiar behind (presumably Greyfrog now)
bottomline, they've been gone so long, they are strangers to Wu

Yes, I wondered about the Shake. I get that they are descended from the Andii, but they also seem to have K'Chain Che Malle blood with all that taloned feet and the scales of the reject babies. What's up with that? I don't want to know what that initial mating was like...

The andii didn't mate with the KCCM.
The most probable theory is that the KCCM layed eggs in the sea. These eggs have some kind of opportunistic nature and will infect/invade their hosts. The Shake, being a coastdvelling people, get infected and the KCCM DNA overwrites their genetic make-up or mixed with it making KCCM/human/andii-hybrids.

Remember when Crump is digging holes and one of them is full of tiny lizards? K'Chain babies right there. All those witches walking around barefoot in mud full of K'Chain babies clearly would have some adverse side effects...

I'm sure those babies are shake newborn thrown over the side of the keep when mutations were discovered.

In HoC, Andarist asks Crokus if Rake has renounced his draconean blood. Maybe that comment encompasses all of the Andii. What if the Andii are long-lived or magical because of draconean lineage somewhere along the way? We still don't know who their father is, maybe he drank some of Tiam too. Or is Tiam (hot).
Anyway, common ancestor of dragons might explain the KC features asserting. Just a theory, I don't necessarily support it.
