So most of the province is doing well case numbers are down, however strict lockdown was put in place in essex county where there were 89 new cases, 88 of which where asymptomatic migrant workers who live in bunks with no separation. Leamington is known as the tomato capital of the province and one of my buddies was dreading an outbreak in other major agricultural centers such as paris (ontario).

That being said i wasn't going to let this stop me from enjoying the weekend with some good friends going camping up north. We're a small group and as isolated as can be from everyone else given were in the middle of nowhere where cellphone reception is spotty if you don't have a good cellphone.

I can definetly see this being a recurring thing, people setting up isolated get togethers, im planning a bbq in a few weeks with a few specific invites, and one of the ground rules is no public transit.

That being said, it unfortunately still puts a damper on meeting new people which is kinda where i am at in life.

As both a Canadian, and a Torontonian, we do not claim idiots like this lady...you American's can have her...she's spouting the Trumplike lies good enough. Good on the staff at St. Joes for not giving a fuck and simply having her escorted out.

Yep, and it looks like she owns her own firm it seems?...easily googled...seems like her business won't be as good as she thought it might with all the backlash to this. This went viral globally hard...so yeah, better look for another job Karen Letitia...

I love that since it's Canada and especially Toronto, the ER nurses are simply like "Nah, fuck you. Bye." no arguments, just facts and booted. No scene to even speak of (cause let's face it, bitch was looking for a scene...she wanted them to argue with her).

If you look at her twitter, she also has doubled down a few times since it went viral, posting shitty YouTube videos of why "masks are bad mmmmmkaaaay"...like how are people this dumb?

I don't like the implication that she has to lose her living because she's an idiot. By all means troll the fuck out of her but she hasn't hurt anybody directly beyond being a nuisance.

She's actively putting others at risk. Fuck her job.

EDIT: Like she videoed herself endangering others...it's not that hard to be not an asshole and put lives at risk in a hospital setting where people are dying.

And also in the dumb as a bag of hammers category....I give you angry about masks to the level of *Checks notes* property damage and videoing yourself as evidence to be used against you.

EDIT: Further down is the video of the cops arresting her at her home...she videos that too...and it turns out her husband called the cops on her because he wants a divorce...jaysus....Arizona Woman is a meme isn't it?

Harm doesn't only encompass "made a person bleed or lose money".

She upped the risk of hospital workers contracting COVID-19 by walking in without a mask, doubled down on it by refusing to wear one, and then likely yelled at them a bunch with all those lung droplets going into the air. That's in those 5 minutes alone. Who knows what else she is doing outside? She decided multiple times to increase the COVID-19 risk of these workers, who are tasked with helping those most in need - people in the emergency room - without their approval. That's harm and it could have had major ripple effects, which would be even more harm.

She can deal with the consequences of being dropped like a hot potato.

Yep.

And now that she has a bunch of people perusing her twitter, she's spreading conspiracy bullshit and videos...so she's not just physically putting people at risk, she's spreading misinformation to hook others into this bullshit.

I found this short (6 minute read approximately) piece by Dr. Tressie McMillian-Cottom to be very on point regarding people who do this kind of performative "I won't wear a mask" thing: https://medium.com/m...is-dda5c3ff51a5

As an insurance advisor?

'Financial Services Commission of Ontario

Requirements for an individual to obtain a licence to act as a General Insurance Agent under the Insurance Act

In order to obtain a licence, an applicant must meet the following requirements:

Complete a General Insurance Agent application, provide applicable supporting documents and pay the required fee of $150.00.

[...]

Be of good character and reputation.'

https://www.fsco.gov.../lic_agent.aspx

She should lose her license.

Again, I'm not sure how destroying this person's life is somehow productive other than making you feel good. It's not going to teach her anything other than that the system is evil and what about her family?

This is getting a bit off topic, but she's demonstrated that she should not be an insurance advisor. She's also a financial advisor (in many cases basically a sham profession for at least moderately rich people) and real estate investor, so she almost certainly has assets. And (unfortunately) she will probably get extra business from anti-mask people etc.

Why is it my responsibility to teach a racist and/or COVID-19 denier anything?

Does anyone know if the Running of the Bulls is happening? I believe this is around the time it would traditionally kick off, yeah? With the travel restrictions the EU enacted, there will be no Americans there, yeah? So less chance of spreading the virus.

It allows us to know that the world sometimes self-corrects when assholes endanger the lot.

I'm cool with that being the only benefit of it. If she doesn't learn, she'll fuck up again down the road and get screwed over again...eventually she'll either figure out not to be an asshole or she won't.

Either way, it's not about us feeling good. It's about her being punished by the universe for being a dick.

Heard a politician talking about opening bars and pubs, and the idea that people will observe social distancing suggestions. He said "people who are drunk are not going to worry about social distancing". Uh, duh. Hey Captain Obvious, you have a call on line 1, it's No Shit Sherlock.

You can order a different one (or make one; lost of instructions online) that has tassels/ties instead of elastics that go over your ears...then you get to decide how tight they are on your head and they don't go over your ears at all.

Even better you could also go with the Neck Gaiter type (the scarf thingie that you pull up over your face when in use, and it chills around your neck when not).

They are all fairly inexpensive and you can hopefully find one that works better than the one that's hurting you.

My initial one was hurting my ears too, so I found a better one that fit better and have been fine since.

Yeah, my elastomeric P100 mask is extremely comfortable. I've seen them going on eBay for about $100 recently. Though they also have valves for breathing out of---there was a mask ordinance in San Francisco iirc that explicitly excluded masks with valves. So you might want to wear a face shield or a scarf or something over the valve to help protect other people (I just wear a face shield over it... if I ever have to walk a significant distance, I'll wear medical safety glasses under the face shield in case I need to lift it for a moment to release carbon dioxide etc. buildup).

Oh I'm definitely going to be finding another very soon and I hate that I have to do so. I just am so uncomfortable seeing people's eyes only. It's not human.

Right, just like using computers, automobiles, or clothes is 'not human'.

The eyes are extremely expressive, and can be more accurate indicators of emotion than the lips:

'A neurologist explains how to spot a fake smile

[...]

Look at the contraction of the muscles around his eyes. That only happens with smiles that reflect true, happy emotions.

On the other hand, a fake smile doesn't use those muscles. When forcing a smile, we use a muscle in each cheek, called the risorius, to pull our lips into the right shape, but the eye muscles don't contract. To demonstrate this, Duchenne electrically stimulated the risorius muscles of his tooth-less friend.'

https://www.business...%20the%20brain.

'It turns out that participants were highly accurate in determining emotions, such as fear and anger, just from looking at images of other people's eyes.'

https://blogs.scient...%20the%20truth.

Attitudes towards masks vary by culture (and over history). They're generally accepted in East Asia.

Interesting article:

'In Japan, it's sometimes said that the eyes speak as much as the mouth.

Perhaps the proverbial phrase captures the essence of the nation's affinity for face masks, a relationship that can be traced back centuries and a custom to which is attributed Japan's lower number of deaths from COVID-19 compared with Western nations — in particular the United States, where wearing a mask has recently become a politically charged issue.

Masks are now omnipresent in Japan as a result of the pandemic, thanks in part to an inherent mask-wearing culture. Besides being sporadically worn during hay fever and influenza seasons, masks have expanded beyond their traditional role over the years and have even been adopted by the fashion and beauty industries.

[...] There's even a term for women who look good in masks — masuku bijin (masked beauty) — and contests are held to decide who among them looks the most attractive donning one.
