Prompted by Worry in the "reading" thread, I realized we had not weighed in with our books we got from our loved ones for the holidays, or even just ones we treated ourselves to.

I'll start off with my list.

SHOGUN by James Clavell
GAI-JIN by James Clavell
TREASON'S HARBOUR by Patrick O'Brian
THE REVERSE OF THE MEDAL by Patrick O'Brian
SKYWARD by Brandon Sanderson
STARSIGHT by Brandon Sanderson

MACRO & CATO/EAGLES OF THE EMPIRE books 1-10 box set by Simon Scarrow
RAVENSPUR by Conn Iggulden
EMPIRE OF THE VAMPIRE by Jay Kristoff (I had this in kindle, but wanted the physical book as I realized it's full of really cool art)

What are yours?

I am afraid to post the list of books I've bought on the kindle the past month or so. I've been extremely fiscally irresponsible.

If it helps Apt I looked at that list and thought two things:
I have most of those and enjoyed them
I don't have some of those I should buy them

A lot of them were free or less than 3 USD. Most were less than 5 USD.

My logic is that it's not an expensive purchase, individually anyway, and it's building a little library of books I can pick up any time I like. Though, logically, I'm buying way more books than I'll ever get around to reading.

Owning books you'll never read is the ultimate form of wealth and excess.

I got a decent stack:

The aforementioned Desert Oracle: Strange True Tales From the American Southwest

The Book of Hidden Things by Francesco Dimitri

The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro

The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music by Dave Grohl

Battle Royale by Houshun Takami

The Book of Disquiet by Fernando Pessoa

Scarenthood by Nick Roche & Chris O'Halloran

The Resurrectionist: The Lost Work of Dr. Spencer Black by E.B. Hudspeth

Most of these are complete question marks to me, but I'm sure I'll mention how each one is down the line.

There is indeed. It came out just this Tuesday.

In between reading Blacktongue Thief, I also cracked open The Devil You Know by KJ Parker yesterday.

It's a relatively short story about Salinious the inventor/philosopher that often gets mentioned in the books, selling his soul to the devil. Which ties into the latest little duology of books about an exorcist and a demon. It all seems to take place in the same universe.

Is there an over all name for this world KJ Parker is writing in? I wonder how many books are connected.

I got an Amazon gift card for the holidays and bought the first two books in Ian C. Esslemont's Novels of the Malazan Empire.

Night of Knives and Return of the Crimson Guard.

I am wondering how I will like Esslemont's writing style versus Erikson's writing style.

It's a lot more straightforward. While I enjoy it overall, I would argue in some instances a bit slower pace would be preferred to properly flesh out a situation. YMMV.
"Fortune favors the bold, though statistics favor the cautious." - Indomitable Courteous (Icy) Fist, The Palace Job - Patrick Weekes

"Well well well ... if it ain't The Invisible C**t." - Billy Butcher, The Boys

"I have strong views about not tempting providence and, as a wise man once said, the difference between luck and a wheelbarrow is, luck doesn’t work if you push it." - Colonel Orhan, Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City - KJ Parker

I love all his books they really fill out the Malazan world though I'll disagree with Tsundoku as in many of his books there is quite a lot slower pace (Blood and Bone for example)

Well worth getting all of them!

As for my Christmas haul, I present a full list of books that I received:
A Haunting Poem
I Scream
You Scream
We all Scream
For I Scream.

I got the last Expanse book, which I am almost done reading, and the latest two issues of The Apothecary Diaries.
