I haven't read the Crippled God, I don't get it until next monday. I have recentl;y been thinking about the Toblakai Trilogy and I wonder what spin/story arc they will put on it.

We have Karsa, Ublala and mysterious seven Cities Tarthenal. We have the Tarthenal on the Lether Islands and also Captured Tarthenal from House of Chains. We have Karsa daughters and the tribes he left behind. They are based Genebackis and may have some Jade Statue near them.

I cannot see where one book would go, never mind 3 books, so I just wanted to invite speculation from many different Malazan fans and go from there.

Book 1: Lots of setup, some battles, you here "WITNESS" a lot, then an epic conclusion, although a much broader issue remains unresolved.

Book 2: More set up, more battles, more witnesses, lots of bloody corpses, and another epic concluding battle, which, while resolving yet more of the greater issue, fails to do so so completely. And Shadowthrone wil make an appearance (assuming he is still around post-tCG).

Book 3: Some set up, a gratutitous sex scene with Samar Dev while Havok silently watches from afar, more bloody battles with a plethora of dead witnesses, Delum Thord and Bairolth Gild say stuff to Karsa, Ublala and the Tarthenal finally complete their voyage across the sea and arrive, only for Ublala to realize that he got the name of the continent wrong and they are actually on Assail. Lots of revelatory revelations follow, setting up ICE's Assail novel. End of trilogy.

More plausibly, howevere, it really depends on how tCG affects Karsa. As I recall, by the end of TTH, he had come to the conclusion that his mission of destroying all civilization would ultimately be futile, though he still undoubtedly has plans for affecting some great, equally radical societal change, as he brings his Teblor into the modern age, leading them out of isolation and down from their plateau, with the Tarthenal arriving shortly thereafter, effectively giving Karsa a sizeable and very, very formidable army.

No idea what happens thereafter (as what exactly his societal plan is would dictate what he does next), but, as all the surrounding lands of the Teblor are Malazan, nevermind the fact that Ublala will undoubtedly not land directly up in northern Genebackis, means that we will likely be in for a very bloody time, as the Tarthenal fight their way north, while Karsa fights for whatever ridiculous (yes, the whole "let's destroy civilization" thing did not really sit well with me) cause he's fighting for, as the Malzans resist him.

Then of course, you'll have various ascendants and Gods make appearances, and, possibly (assuming he is one of the major character's Patch referred to in his tCG review that did not make a significant appearance) Paran will return to Genebackis at the head of Onearm's Host to quash the Toblakai revolution.

Or, something completely different could happen, but that is my best guess for the time being.

"But I saw you [Snake]…faced by Anomander [Mandy] himself. How did…"
"I escape? Well, I dazzled him with fancy words, edging ever closer, then used my ninja skills to strike like a cobra, knocking the sword [Spamnipur] away and drop-kicking him over the side before tumbling backwards, slaying another Piss'd Andii on the way."
Silence. Lots of silence. "Fine!" He shrugged and grinned, "Someone hit him in the face with a coin, and he cursed just long enough for me to get away." ~ Excerpt from Gardens of the Tea Spoon

Don't forget about the Tarthenal blood in the southern part of Korel. I think it's safe to assume that all major continents have some varient - Assail, Stratum, etc. Also, there are the Fenn from Qon Tali.

And there is also apparently a Toblakai society, which are unique as they seem to actually refer to themselves as such, of some sort residing somewhere in eastern Stratem (as alluded to in RotCG, and I believe explicitly stated by Hagen in Stonewielder).

Teblors have otataral on Ladereon. Malazans love otataral. Also, some tyrant dude is up to pop up in the middle of Genabackis, so he may be included too. Especially that Seguleh seem pretty far away, so the only ones to stop him would be the T'orrud Cabal, ergo, he is going to need a shitload of otataral to shove it down their magi throats. But that's a longshot - we gonna have to wait for Orb/Sceptre/Throne to see what the all Darujhistan and Humble Measure thing is all about.

Also I think Karsa is going to have a hard time trying to persuade fellow Teblors to join him in his crusade against... well, anything he thinks is worth killing. Especially that now he has
Spoiler
so the thing with accepting his leadership among Laderon guys will become even more complicated. Which means tons of slaughter, blood, killing, raping and generally WITNESS-ing at its best.

Anyway, what I guess will be the main themes of first Toblakai novel:
- Karsa trying to unite Teblors under his command
- Malazans trying to seize new source of Otataral
- aftermath of whatever happens in Orb/Scpetre/Throne
- some gods trying to manipulate Teblor ot all the Toblakai to worship them.

Do we know what the setting for this series will be?Who's to say it won't be a historical look at the origins of the Toblakai race? They do seem to permeate every corner of the Malazan world. From the First Empire to Genabackis to Fenn.
...I think I stepped in something...untoward...

It's going to have Karsa come back and punch his grandfather to Arrakis. YES, A DIFFERENT PLANET IN A DIFFERENT UNIVERSE IN A DIFFERENT GENRE

KARSA DON'T MESS AROUND
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I'm curious about how many POVs will be taken up. Like if it's similar to HoC Book 1 or not. My wild guess is that there will be time gaps between each book, and we will get to see the rise of Grub. Not necessarily directly though or at his peak. But if he lasts long enough to be First Sword of the ME, and is so during its final years, then it may line up nicely with the Karsa story.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.
