Anyone do triathlons? Anyone trained for/completed an Ironman?
My good friend who does Ironman tossed me a mail saying that in summer 2014 there will be an Ironman in Hokkaido. I've never done a triathlon, but I'm seriously considering it. I'm already a runner with some marathons on the calendar for the end of 2013, beginning of 2014.
Anyone have training advice or websites to recommend for a noob like me?
Part of my inspiration is I just spent 3 weeks in Kona, Hawaii on vacation. Ironmen/women are everywhere there, and it's home to the Ironman Championship.

You’ve never heard of the Silanda? … It’s the ship that made the Warren of Telas run in less than 12 parsecs.

I think that the reason no one replied is because...
its a murderous event:
2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim
112-mile (180.25 km) bicycle ride
and a marathon 26.2-mile (42.2 km) run
...consecutively
INSANE!
Dont do it until you've done all of the above at least a few times, and then try doing 2 on the same day and build up from there.
Or you could go for it and then it'll be RIP Shin

The idea is caput, not for bodily reasons. Those suckers cost over 500 bucks to enter. No can do.

Yeah, they're kind of a "rich person" event to enter, unless you have sponsors.
Also, I've never trained for one (nor do I want to). I like swimming and biking, but running isn't my jam. If I could do the swimming and biking together along with something else, I'd be much more interested.

I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

I'm guessing you could handle an olympic traithlon distance, no? That's only a 10km run.
