Damn, this is impressive.

I can see my plans for a water tower in the sea needs more ambition.

New update from the explosion guy. The guy is making it into a series it seems.

In other news apparently Notch is doing some serious trials on the flight modes:

If you check out the description they also mention creating new terrain, like swamps and deserts. And areas with abandoned structures, mob villages and dragons!

There's also a video of Giant Zombies.

So, is anyone else but me and Green Pig actually playing the game now? Have you built anything fun or worth mentioning?

I've added two improvements to the basement of the Apt Tower

An underground Garden. I'm actually considering expanding it and making the water fall the centre of a larger square of crops. But I'm already swimming in corn as it is.

And a bigger project, my reserve of resources:

The steel doors are really cool but they can only be opened with switches or levers. I thought it would be cool to hook all 4 door up to a lever with redstone dust but by the time I finally figured out how to actually realise such a system I realised that it would be so big and ugly that it would ruin the over all design of the storage. So, I ended up with just putting a lever by each door. Two on the outside and two on the inside (so I don't accidentally get locked in one day).

Nice basement! You seem to have a load of resources...I find I have a bit of trouble finding a decent amount, myself...

Regarding your doors though, you ought to have a redstone circuit - you only need one per double door if you make a singe hole in the wall through which you can reach the lever from both sides. You seem to have plenty of space too, so sinking it under the floor shouldn't be a problem. The difficulty with mine was that I had such a small space to work in but I still managed to get it right in the end.

That water tower you linked earlier is awesome! I want to build something like that now, but I don't know what to do without copying it too much...

Also, I seem to have trouble growing saplings (i.e. they just don't grow). Thoughts? (Yes, I'm giving it the necessary space and light.)

AND NOW...THE SUMMER HOUSE!

THis has been built atop my spawn point, so I have somewhere nice to spawn in. The outside (coincidentally my tower is in the background):

First floor living/reception room (bookcase needs finishing):

Second floor, looking inwards from the balcony:

Ground floor, where I spawn:

Plus, over in the distance (I can't be bothered to go over there) you can see my random tower of lave with a big platform at the top, which you can climb up to:

And there's also a good view of my greenhouse/allotment from here:

I'm something of a hoarder. I keep everything except if I have too much gravel and stone in my inventory when I'm deep, deep underground.

I wanted to do that, but I absolutly despise having visible holes in my walls and floor and I don't want to be able to see the redstone trails. I did see one set-up for double door where it wasn't visble but I took a three block deep wall and some crazy elaborate wiring. Seeing as I prefer nice walls and that there's another room below my storage room I'd rather just go without.

You mean outside or inside. I've noticed that the sapplings I plant outside stand around for ages without growing, or even disappear sometimes, but then later suddenly there's a tree. I think it may be the same glitch as with the crops. You need to do some kind of activity near them and they will change. For example after I plant a new batch of crops nothing seems to grow for days, but if I walk over to the crops and do something like setting down a torch the plants pop into fully matured crops ready for harvest. I think it's because the growth is actually an animation and the animation only takes place if it registers activity in its proximity.

Ohh sweet. I've been think of doing something similar, but my tower is very close to my spawn point. Anyway, I spawned on the beach and I've already dog out all the sand. I'm planning on turning the hollowed out beach area into a sub marine pen... that I can enter through my basement(s).

Wait a second. God dammit, Green. I just took a closer look at your summer house. You find a ton of clay and you waste it building a missmatched roof on a wooden house!? You put bricks on top of wood?! God dammit! :D

That stuff is more rare than diamonds. :D

Yeah, the bricks on the roof struck me as odd too, but I'd already started xD It's not missmatched though!...is it? Or by missmatched, do you mean the oddity of a brick roof? I did notice the shortage of clay, however, what else is there to use it for other than a...brick roof...?

The saplings, I was trying to re-plant outside, after cutting down trees for wood. I might experiment in a minute.

Submarine pen?! Are you going to build a submarine too? That's awesome! (Funny that, as I suggested building a giant sumbarine underwater, to a friend earlier this evening.)

The other question I have is whether it's actually possible, at this stage, to build things underwater, considering the 15 second breath limit and the lack of sponges? The screenshots on the Tower of Life link indicate Minecraft Alpha, but how did they manage to build all of that and then remove the water from the inside of the structure?

There's different ways to go about it, building under water that is. You can for example you can make a pile of wood under water.Pile stone on top of it. Dig in under it and light the wood on fire.

Other way around would be to build a dome that leads up to the surface and just drop gravel into the hole until all the water is gone.

Wood, eh? Momentarily, I thought I understood but now I've realised I still don't have a clue how to do that. are you implying a- no! Scratch that, I DO understand!

So you mean a dome shaped pile of wood (if it's a dome i wish to create), over which is placed a layer of the building material of choice, once the wood is burnt the inner is left as empty air? Makes sense...you suggested stone as it doesn't burn, does the same apply to glass?

Ahh, also...any ideas on how to illuminate the dark depths of the water so that you can see what you're doing?

I swaer to God Apt, you were at uni when I joined in 2006 and have been there ever since. What the hell are you studying, time dilation fields?!?!

This game looks awesome though. If I wasn't so abysmal at this sort of game, I'd get it. As it is, I'm still tempted anyway. Although I think if that guy had said "pretty cool" in the youtube video one more time I might have had to commit murder.

Damnit, guys, now I'm playing. I spawned on a beach and it seems like I have a lot of ocean/lake nearby. I found a cliff face and scaled it in order to find a safe place to spend the first night. Then I tunneled through the mountain the cliff was on and proceed to go back to the middle of my tunnel and go down down down. This is stupidly fun, already. Gotta read up on minepedia to see what the different stuff I have gathered is.

You can make any kind of pile of wood. Make it a square if you want to. The point is that if it is covered in a solid material, be it stone, dirt, glas, when the wood burns up, a bell of air appears.

If the sea/lake bottom is so far down you can't see what you're doing, my other suggestion is probably better, make a hollow tube like structure that goes down to the sea and drop gravel into it until the water is soaked up.

It's a pretty cool game :D

Got the bachelor and then spent a year doing fuck all because I didn't get into the course I wanted to start. Pretty nice actually, spent a year doing manual labor letting my brain vegetate. Just began my new course this semester. I'm studying "Information Science" at the "Academy of scientific information" (rough translation) which is a ridiculously self important title for a school that trains librarians and archivists. Another 2-3 years to go. *sigh*

Buy the game TT. It is awesome. You don't have to spend your time building anything, you can just spend it spelunking and monsterhunting.

EDIT: And it's cheap. Price of two pints out on the town.

Just in case you're not quite happy with your surroundings you can just make a new world. Every new world spawns a new map.

PRO-tip: When going cave exploring always bring a big stack of unprocessed wood. It will allow you to craft anything you need on your way instead of having to run back to the home base every time your tools get worn down or your run out of torches.

Ha, so I'm not the only one who did that around here - and with a school that sounds as self important as it can. I already finished my first three years (spent a year doing nothing) and next month I'm starting my Master in library science.

I think I like where I've spawned. Upon further inspection I realized that the cliffside is one side of a nice mountain. The mountain top is covered with trees, and it isn't so prohibitively big that I can't build a wall around the mountain itself. Then I can build trees on top of trees on top so I can eventually make a tree house while I do all of my crafting in the mountain while I have a relaxing balcony looking out over the ocean view and floating island. :D

Indeed Notch mentioned it on his blog yesterday.

Naturally he was practically squealing with joy. Penny Arcade has like a million readers or something and this will most likely double the stream of new buyers.

Notch is going to be rolling in cash before he knows it.
