The order should be front line workers, nursing home workers and residents, prisoners, guards, then the next batches.

I have clients in prison right now. It is scary for them due to lack of resources and even responses from those in authority.

The extremely tough thing about people being incarcerated right now is that almost everyone agrees that they shouldn't be in the conditions they're in, yet nobody is willing to take the political hit to let them out and actually save lives.

It’s the body formed by the WHO and EU and whatever else to create a body to find the funding for 2 billion doses of covid vaccines and to give them to particularly poor countries. Countries which would otherwise lack the money or population size to enter into agreements with Pfizer for example. It’s a very necessary thing but that South Africa didn’t even bother to try and arrange a purchase of vaccines for hospital workers even is just incompetent. SA they say won’t get a vaccine does till at least April.

I've done no research on this but I'm willing to guess that the UK is not leading, or even part of, these efforts.

Who or what is COVAX? (Beyond a good name for a spectre like organisation)

First name Takeshi, Covax was once an envoy, which was a specialist soldier...

Quebec is headed to a "total" lockdown of 3-4 weeks, including shutting schools, manufacturing and construction, plus a curfew, all starting Saturday, reports La Presse

And what Quebec does, Ontario eventually has to follow...so yeah, our current "lockdown" is not the last one....the next one will be, only time will tell till Doug does this.

Sigh.

The lockdowns would be great - if they were combined with super stringent contact tracing and isolation of exposed people with pay + housing support.

The game plan to beat this has been shown to the world. Wuhan is having massive parties with no masks because they've beaten this. Several other countries have done the same.

Gotdang embarrassing to have moronic leaders stumble on this over and over again.

People's shitty attitude combined with abysmal leadership and direction.

We get news tonight on what's happening regards latest lockdown.

I'm in construction, it's currently still going, and what's frustrating is some sites and companies (the job I'm on) are doing their best and on the whole doing a fairly good job of it.

Staggered tea breaks, worker groupings broken up where ever possible. Mandatory masks. Dedicated cleaning teams who cycle the welfare facilities and all walkways all day long disinfecting and cleaning.

Then there are other sites.... Doing sweet fuck all different to their norm. Behind the hoardings they don't fucking care. And, as usual, it's the fuckwits that do this are crippling the efforts to control this.

I can see us being shut down for another few weeks. It makes sense because it's the only way to control the assholes.

We've technically beaten it but we're very tied into what's happening in the UK and it's people who live here that have gone over and failed to isolate properly that will bring it back. We've had 6 overnight and I think we're going back into a 3 week lockdown.

In fact it appears there are people who have done their 14 days mandatory isolation and then caught it which is a bit worrying...

But yeah.
Assholes.

Police in NI broke up over 100 "sizeable" house parties over the new year period.

One in a small town near Derry had 30 people at it. They have all now tested positive. Of that group one was a nursery/creshe type place carer, KNEW SHE HAD IT, didn't tell anyone and went in to work anyway.

Well I was right. 3 weeks lockdown, mandatory face masks, hospitality shutting again.

We were getting our new carpets in tomorrow!

Ok so that was facetious and I'm aware that we've had a good time of it compared to most places. Still, frustrating.

Considering that the UK has been the largest sponsor worldwide of GAVI, which is the organisation coordinating the COVAX programme, I think that is slightly off the mark.

Good to hear my cynicism was unfounded in this case. Happy to be proved wrong.

OK, the jet ski.

Some idiot from Scotland decided he wanted to visit his girlfriend/easy hook-up/bit on the side for some fun and games and didn't like that we'd closed the borders to non-residents.

So he hired a jet ski, thought it would only take 40 minutes to get here and set off. Four and a half hours later, and just running on fumes, he made it. Landed in Ramsey and walked to Douglas which would have taken another few hours. Had some fun with the girl and was later picked up and arrested for breaching Covid regulations.

Was sent to jail.

Made international news, people were saying how lovely and romantic it was (I'm sure if he'd infected their grandma it wouldn't have been so romantic but what do I know?)

Anyway he was recently released and booted back to Scotland (though I think they let him use the ferry on this occasion).

It later turned out that he couldn't swim. So it could have ended up a lot less entertaining...

Sounds like he may want to rethink which head does the actual thinking.

Looking like a full hard lockdown, all non essential construction is on the table to be scraped until February at least.

Official decision to be made today but I'd say it's a cut and dried done deal behind the curtains already.

The biggest question we have now is will the cull it from right now or give us tomorrow to wrap up properly as well?

It appears a lot of places in the world are FINALLY getting there notion that without a full hard lockdown, it will be nearly impossible to get things under control enough...so it's good they are finally doing it, but man the fact that it took so long means that so many people and small businesses suffered needlessly for MONTHS instead of a month or two of strife and coming out better the other side.

But yeah, I feel like looking at places like Oz, NZ, SK, Japan ect. is finally sinking in with the "economy/freedom" crowd.
