I have an ongoing project to create a 12mm scale Warmaster Army for the Mazlazan Empire forces...

as part of that process I made a flag generator in Adobe Fireworks so that i can make unit flags for the various armies and forces.... Bear in mind that in their final format these Banners/Standards will be around 15-20mm tall at the most.... so you are seeing a (massively) exploded view of them.

Starting with the Imperial Army Banner...

and then the Bridgeburners...

There's another 60 or so units in total to do, so as part of that I had to create a "unified" method of Heraldry for the various unit types - i.e. an archer Unit would have a specific Flag background, and its foreground Unit details would change for each unit.
A Infantry unit would have a different background and so on and so forth... this precludes some options and enforces a level of uniformity that some may dislike - but the armies we are doing run from the 1st to the 14th, which is a big period of change to cover... not to mention non-imperial (core) units...

lots more to (Slowly) Follow including Warmaster Army Lists.

The only way to get a Malazan Army to work is with a bit of magic with unit designations.... so, squads-companies-regiments-army

Standard mix is 4 medium infantry, 1 archer, 1 longbow, 1 heavy, 1 heavy (vet) and 1 Sappers (So this is pre-Spindle era 1st Army with entire companies of sappers).
The companies generally reflect the later-day squad mixes ratio 1 hvy: 1 marine: 6 medium (4 inf + 2 medium bow/longbow as a combined-arms unit) that actually make up a "proper" Malazan Company - but its impossible to get that to work for workable Warmaster army, hence the fudge.

For the flags Veteran Units will get a logo/badge, line units just get a number or silhouette.

How is your warmaster project going ?

I myself am near finishing a malazan miniatures game. Maybe you could use mine for inspiration or receive direct help from me.
